Dark and heavy profile works very well with the influence from the port cask. While not overpowering, the additional fruity notes create further depth. While there is quite some wood in the profile after 20y tropical ageing, it’s not overly bitter. Nice one.

You really have to be a Port wine fanatic to like this bottling. Thanks, Tobi, for digging it up, but this is not my thing at all. The long time in the Port wine cask has ruined a lot and pretty much overpowers everything from the Chairman's profile. For those who like it.

This Chairman’s is too strongly influenced by Port wine for me, both on the nose and on the palate. Tastes like a rather damp cask. But still dry. Not quite my thing. Otherwise very good, but you really have to like the wine/Port influence.

I'm generally not a big fan of Port "finishes," but here it works really well despite 17 (!) years of tropical aging (+3 Bourbon). The Vendome profile is strong enough to keep giving the rum its core character, while the Port influences nicely complement it. The alcohol integration is top-notch, the mouthfeel is nicely oily, and the finish is long. Great stuff!

Avg Rating 8.2/10 over 230 Rums

St. Lucia Distillers is the island's only distillery and one of the most versatile in the Caribbean. Four stills give it eight different distillates, molasses and cane juice, pot and column, which its blenders turn into everything from the humble Bounty to the cult Chairman's Reserve and the super-premium Admiral Rodney. It rebuilt itself after an arson fire and is now owned by the same group as Martinique's J.M and Clement.
