Wagemut Special Edition 2025 2005
Several members call it a proper sipper that eases you into cask strength without knocking you over. Raisins, caramel and dark cherry lead, with roasted wood and a sweet, almost syrupy body that reminds a few tasters of a PX cask. The 54.6% is the sticking point: some find the alcohol nicely tucked in, others say it bites in the nose and turns sharp on the palate.

8:On the nose, roasted wood notes like caramel, burnt sugar, leather, toffee, metallic patina, thick molasses, flowery, citrus fruits, slightly alcoholic, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, fruits like raisins, dried apricots, prunes, cherry, arise, resinous, smoky, spicy wood with vanilla, cocoa and some tobacco. 7,9:On the palate, the attack is sharp, alcoholic with sweet roasted wood notes like burnt sugar, caramel, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, spicy with vanilla, peppery, later syrupy with slightly bitter molasses, herbaceous and fruity with dried fruits, cherry and citrus fruits. 8,1:The finish is medium long, more round, balanced, dry&tannic, metallic, sweet with the notes from palate lingering on. Edit:15.6.26, an upgrade for 0.1

I can hardly wait for the tour to start. Here's the next rum that can be called a great sipper. A slight sweetness is present here thanks to vanilla and caramel, but also slightly fruity, cherry is noticeable.

Unfortunately, right from the nose there's a rather sharp alcoholic note that continues on the palate. Sharp-edged and cutting, plus unnaturally sweet (raisiny and caramelized), probably from the Pineau des Charentes finish. Overall rather unbalanced, I have to say...

A great rum, even for people who have no experience with cask strength yet, very easy to drink. Fruity raisin notes with slight roastiness. Everyone I've offered this rum to so far was totally thrilled.

A really successful rum that offers a good transition from entry level into the world of cask strength without overwhelming. Still, you can perceive many different components. For 75 euros a good price-performance ratio.

Decent rum, with a touch of creamy sweetness. But still not (anymore) my thing. Good entry for newbies into the cask strength area. Update (2 months later): Goes up one point... no more is possible.

A grenade and that at the great price of 75 euros, or for members in the subscription. Very intense and fruity on the nose, at first the alcohol "bites" slightly in the nose, tasted after about 30 minutes in the blender glass.

Quite sweet, similar to the Px Cask. Alcohol could be better integrated. But a nice sipper.
Review by Marcus Thelen
The cask strength alcohol is excellently integrated and doesn't sting in the nose or mouth. Great rum for an evening with friends.

Sipper, sweet, easy-drinking. Alcohol a bit too present.
