8,4:On the nose, cognac barrel impact is obvious, dried fruits, menthol and varnish, roasted wood notes like caramel, spicy, meaty, smoky, fresh molasses, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, candied fruits, red, tropical with banana, arise, apple is baked, molasses thick, caramelized burnt sugar, cardboard hints join, some rubber. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is fruity with dried fruits, grapes(cognac barrel impact), tropical fruits like, pineapple, mango, medicinal with menthol, as molasses is thick, candied and wood is roasted with pecans, salted caramel, leather, spicy, caramelized. 8,5:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, rubber is burnt, fruits are dried and tropical, some candied, as wood is roasted with nuts, caramel, burnt sugar, leather, spicy with allspice(hot), smoky and molasses dark with licorice. 20.9.26

#6381 21.02.2026 Enjoying a set of samples my friend brought for us to enjoy. A pretty average Savanna in my mind. Nice fruity notes with mint and some nice licorice and nutts. Overall balance is OK. Needs to rest for a while to really settle properly.

A more consensual Savanna. The cognac is present throughout the tasting. The delicate woodiness as well. The fruitiness comes with quince fruit paste, softened with vanilla. It's round and indulgent on the nose. The cask is dusty. The palate is warm at first with quite a bit of pepper, before refreshing on menthol. Quite a bit of burnt caramel. But overall it's quite uniform and lacks the complexity of the nose. The finish lingers reasonably with notes of roasted nuts and strong spices. A bit expensive for what it is.

Tasting of a 2cl sample. 🎨 Dark, deep copper to smooth brown. 👃 First impression very cognac-like. Dried fruit, nuts, pecan, spices, typical woodiness, bitter chocolate, leather. Then, lots of tropical fruits with a candied note (a bit like fruit jellies), pineapple, mango, guava, papaya, apple-cinnamon, but also apple and quince jam. A hint of varnish and mint candy bring a breath of fresh air to this full and sapid nose. 😋 As if very old Cognac and Rum had been skilfully blended. Lots of barrel flavors, cooking spices, roasted nuts, chili chocolate, cinnamon apples cooked in salted caramel. Exotic fruits, rather candied, roasted pineapple, notes of dried fruit. Slight menthol freshness. Warm and lively on the palate, concentrated and intense. ⛳ Long, warm, spicy, slightly bitter. Dried and candied fruit, warm caramel, nuts, a hint of licorice. 💡 If you like grape brandies, you will be pleasantly surprised by the characteristics of Cognac. The aging process is carefully controlled and offers a more complex profile than it appears, with layered aromas and flavors.

Finally, these new Savannas in the glass, I was very disappointed in advance that they were only available in overpriced bundles and in my opinion, they are not worth the price. That doesn't mean they are bad, but in my eyes, they are not outstanding.

The rum is rather smooth, silky, and at the same time powerful. Especially just before the finish, the alcohol hits the tongue a bit negatively. Taking slightly bigger sips is much more enjoyable here. Absolutely solid.

05-12-2025 - Rate 9.1 The 5th. in a line up of 5 different Savanna rums. The last one was the best according to me and the rest of the participants. Nose of tropical fruit, wood and a hint of cognac. Palate of pineapple, wood, spice and cognac. Long finish dominated by dried fruits and wood 11-07-2026 - Rate 8.9

Great Savanna tasting with Artur. A broad and rich nose with alcohol, sweetness, peppermint, and tropical fruits. The palate is slightly smoky and woody, and the rum becomes more and more smoky and woody in its finish, with a nice bitterness probably linked to the cognac cask.

A wonderfully typical Savanna on the nose and palate. Esters, fruits like mango, pineapple, tropical fruits, and solvents are particularly prominent. I also detect milk chocolate, mint and a bit of barrel.

A nose that smells like fresh varnish, slight smoky notes, and maybe a bit of sulfur. There's barrel! With aeration, slight meaty notes, a bit of a mezcal vibe that intrigues me, a caramel base that softens the edges. It reminded me of my first encounter with the superb Excellence Rhum bottling released at Rhum Fest Paris 2025 (link). On the palate, fattier than #615, more caramelized, and overall more fruity. Roasted pineapple, a good dose of macadamia nuts, and a roasted-burnt touch that adds some relief. Finish between salted butter caramel & kitchen spices. There is also some nut, dried fruit, and a bitterness that slightly dries the palate. More nuanced than #615 – but not necessarily my favorite, especially because nuts aren't really my thing 😉. Without it being annoying, I'd gladly look for the pep and acidity of #615.

Tasting 4 samples of this new Wild edition. I'm a big fan of what Savanna does, their atypical and varied rums. I really enjoyed these new rums and I won't take into account the exorbitant price compared to previous versions... Before diving into this Wild edition, I took a look at the Savanna Unshared Belgium Mérou, which I had rated 8.4, to give myself a reference point. It's the one I liked the least of the four, but that doesn't stop it from being a great rum. On the nose, the fruits stand out, as well as cognac and woodiness. On the palate, I found the alcohol slightly poorly integrated. It has a more generic profile compared to the Voie Lactée, woody, fruity. Average finish, the woodiness and fruitiness remain until the end.

Quite restrained on the nose, some caramel. On the palate intense with spice, somewhat vegetal and also a bit Tictac wintergreen. Finish somewhat not short, but a bit unspectacular. A nice Savanna, but (too) expensive for what it is.

Savanna Cross Tasting - November 2025: The Grotte Marine from the new Wild Island Edition is a solid Savanna, not bad, but not outstanding either. The nose and palate are pleasant, but the woody note turns into bitterness on the palate.

🇷🇪 Nová Wild Island edice 🏞️🌅🌋🌌 🥃 Black Volcano Cave 🌋 Agricole, 2014, 7 let, ex-cognac, 61% Velmi svěží a živý, trochu travnatý a velmi ovocný po žlutém kontinentálním ovoci, po provzdušnění se více projevuje dřevitost se zemitým kořením a bylinkami. V chuti je agricole DNA znatelnější více. Parádní kousek a pro mě asi největší překvapení série. 🥃 Marine Cave 🏞️ Traditionnel, 2009, 15 let, ex-cognac, 62,6% Potřebuje delší čas ve sklenici, než se pořádně otevře. Pak nabídne bohaté aroma ořechů, lehké praženosti, karamelu, hnědého cukru, koření a dotek chemie. V chuti se přidávají ovocnější tóny. 🥃 Milky Way 🌌 Traditionnel, 2008, 15 let, ex-sherry, 60,1% Čokoládově nasládlý se dřevem a sušenými švestkami a celkově poměrně tmavý s příjemnou vínovou linkou. Krásně plný a hutný jak ve vůni tak v chuti. Závěr je tu ale nečekaně chemicko-gumový (zvýrazněný ještě po zapití vodou). To mi ale nevadí. 🥃 Tree in flames 🌅 Grand Arome, 2010, 13 let, ex-cognac, 60,9% Záměrně jsem si nechal na konec, protože prostě vrchol. Skvělý nos, jak jsme u Grand Arome Savanny zvyklí. Mix sladkého, zralého tropického ovoce (zvláště banánu) a umělé jahody umocněný akurátní dávkou esterů a chemie a kapka toho dřeva a sladkokyselosti. V chuti ta samá nálož ovocných tónů s estery. Celkově to působí jako gumídci. ______ Opět nádherná přírodní grafika, kterou prostě můžu, a opět špičkové rumy, které prostě můžu. A za mě se určitě staví na stejnou úroveň jako předchozí edice.

24/01/2026: tasting @ Liquid Leuven 2026. I had high hopes for this one, but tasting it after the Herrline No.2 didn't do it justice. The 15yr Cognac barrel influence made it way more woody and dry. It's missing the huge fruitiness from a Grande Arôme. Still good rum, but overpriced.

This is a rather straightforward savanna in this flight of wild islands. A menthol note carries surprisingly well with the bitter nut flavours in the palate. A bit too one dimensional to be great but still enjoyable
