Planteray itself states the current 2016 bottling at 44.3% ABV; occasionally – as also here at the tasting at GRF2026 – it is listed at 44.6%. The Planteray Trinidad 2016 combines fresh fruit with an unusually dry, spicy character. Green apple, pear, and mango meet almonds, vanilla, and fine maritime notes. On the palate, malt, toast, orange peel, and pepper come through. The Armorik finish brings an exciting whisky-like touch and slight saltiness. Especially impressive is the enormously long, increasingly bitter and complex finish. Compared to many classic Planteray bottlings, it is distinctly dry. That makes it particularly interesting if you prefer less sweet, more characterful rums.

Another Planteray release from the single cask series. Distilled at TDL, molasses-based, column still. 3 years aging in Trinidad, 5 years in a Cognac cask, then 10 months in an Amorik Whisky cask. Color is yellow gold. The first nose impression reminds me a bit of Barbados. Oak, coconut, caramel. Then also citrus notes, green apple, and a slight hint of mint. Overall round and restrained. On the palate, mint dominates immediately, underlined by distinct sweetness despite being unsweetened. The rum feels a bit watery, although the ABV is present. The medium-long finish carries herbal/mint aromas, accompanied by light oak and caramel sweetness. OK, but for my taste, there are better TDL releases in the same segment.
