The Marsala finish layers dried apricot and raisin over the usual coconut, vanilla and caramel, with a light woody backbone. It reads a touch sweet, and at 48.4% the alcohol pokes through — a few tasters wished it were better integrated. Pleasant, not thrilling.

8:1:On the nose, toasted wood with sweet pastry, biscuits, caramel, nuts, spicy with allspice, citrus fruits, coconut, dried apricots, raisins, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, some fruits are candied, various roasted notes join like leather, chocolate, hints of coffee, black tea, some vanilla. 7,8:On the palate, the attack is buttery with roasted wood notes like toffee, nuts, spicy allspice, vanilla, green pepper, the molasses is thick, later fresh with tea, the fruits are dried with raisins, apricots, tropical with coconut and citrus. 7,7:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with Bajan markers pairing notes from cognac/Marsala finish. Dann wären wir mit diesem Set auch durch, beileibe echt nix überragendes, aber was solls, besser als nichts ;) Barbados ist hier allerdings auch erkennbar, Kokosnuss , Vanille und Karamell sind hier mit dabei.

Verkostet neben einem Planterey Panama im white Port Fass und einem Planterey Dom Rep im PX Fass. Hat mir von den dreien am besten gefallen. Die Farbe ist ansprechend und passt durchaus zu einem Barbados Rum. In der Nase sehr animierend. Karamell und Cocos und Süsse mit dezentem Holz. Alles auf der leckeren Seite ohne parfümiert zu wirken. Auch am Gaumen trotz einer gewissen Alkoholschärfe gefällig. Schöne Aromatik mit gebranntem Zucker und Fassnoten unterstüzt von einer noch angenehmen Süsse. Alles geht in einen überraschend langen schönen Abgang über. Prima PLV. Natürlich nichts für Liebhaber von knochentrockenen Varianten, aber mir gefällt die Abfüllung mit Marsala-Finish.

British profile meets sweet wine - a tried and tested recipe, but not always a bullseye. Oak, vanilla, coconut, plus the rich sweetness of caramel and fruits. The integration of the alcohol, as well as the somewhat too sugary profile, still has room for improvement, but it is (just) at a good level.

So this Planteray collection wasn't all that great. I've tried all the samples now, but honestly, there wasn't a single one I'd personally need or recommend. Despite the dilution, they all come off watered down and still mostly alcoholic, with this artificial sweetness.
