Ester, glue and overripe banana meet a heavy red-wine/sherry cask, plus rubber, roasted wood and a sulphur note that divides people. Add water and nuts, dried fruit and chocolate come forward. 8,4:On the nose, esters and rubber, glue, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, red fruits, quite strong sherry barrel impact with leather, sulphur, roasted wood notes like caramel, nuts, dark chocolate, spicy with allspice, smoky. On aeration, red and citrus fruits arise, more burnt notes like burnt sugar, caramelized, pastry, bacon, meaty, dirty, as the molasses is vegetal. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with esters, rubber, slightly dirty, sherry barrel impact is obvious, the fruits are fermented like banana, pineapple, red, citrus fruits, dried fruits join, the wood is roasted, charred with burnt sugar, caramelized, leather, smoky, meaty, malty, spicy with allspice, pepper, as the molasses is candied, grassy, earthy with cigar tobacco, vegetal with briny olive. 8,3:The finish is rather long, dry&tannic, dirty with Hampden markers still pairing strong sherry barrel impact. Am Anfang kann er noch gut mit seinem Jamaica Funk Antritt punkten. Dann mischt sich der Rotwein/Sherry Fasseinfluss ein und macht diese Abfüllung unharmonisch. Dazu medizinisch, auf die nicht so leckere Art und viel Schwefel im Abgang.

#6092 20.12.2025 Enjoying cracking open this bottle while watching Gold Rush on the telly. Nose Light wood, sulphor, fruits, faint smoke, faint rubber, light glue, sherry, faint caramel. Palate Medium intense, light wood, sherry, fruits, light sulphor, light rubber, faint salt, light orange, light herbs, faint mint. Finish Very long and warm, light wood, dry, sherry, light sulphor, faint citrus, light dried fruit. Empty glass Sour, light sulphor, light herbs, fruits. This one is very strong on the sherry notes, so if you do not like that kind og finish, then this is not for you. Needs to rest for a very long time for the sherry to settle. I nipped at the beginning and then waited 45 minutes before the second sip.

The sherry cask maturation seems to suit it well. It is more complex than the bourbon cask-matured RX 11980. The sherry cask is by no means too dominant. It's young and has its rough edges, but that's okay. I imagine that it is slightly sulphurous on the finish. With water, however, this note goes away and nuts, dried fruit and chocolate notes appear.

Smagning d. 14.07.2026 Hampden HLCF Kirsch Whisky. Whisky Watcher sample. Duft: Svovl og tanniner, læder og tugt sødmefuld cherry fad. Den tropiske overmodne frugt, kan næsten ikke trænge igennem. Palette: Svovl og tanniner, gummi, sødmefuld og fed, tørret frugt og saltet oliven. Ristet tropisk frugt efterfulgt af chokolade og kraftig rødvins noter. Eftersmagen er domineret af svovl og tung cherryfad og brine. Glasset: Svovl og tanniner, saltet fad præg. Smagning “In the cave”

Having just had the Ex-Bodegas Fundador LFCH 2021 in the glass, this rum is already significantly better, as you recognize the Hampden and the cask influence is clear but not too dominant. Alcohol integration fits, but I will continue to avoid sherry and red wine casks as finish.

Oh man, I'm really getting tired of trying these sherry finish things. Okay, it's not as bad as the other one, which was more than terrible. Okay, you can drink this one, but it's not my thing.

#1716 16-01-2026 - Rate 7.6 This one is also all sherry cask but not 4 years as the Romhatten edition, but only 2 years. Is that better? In short, Yes. Nose of tropical fruit, ester, glue, wood and sherry. Palate of wood, tropical fruits, ester and sherry. Medium finish dominated by wood and sherry.

Nase: zu Beginn merkt man direkt den Sherryfass-Einfluss. Nach kurzer Zeit dann aber auch die zu erwartenden Frucht (hier fällt es mir schwer diese genauer zu benennen - wenn ich es müsste wäre es Ananas) und Esternoten wobei der Sherry durchgehend präsent bleibt. Geschmack: primär fruchtig aber auch leichte Ester und Fassnoten. Auch hier merkt man das Sherryfass. Ich schmecke noch etwas weiteres was ich leider nicht benennen kann. Ganz interessant durch das Sherryfass aber holt mich nicht ganz ab. Ich habe auf jeden Fall schon bessere Rums mit Sherry-Einfluss im Glas gehabt (z.B. Pagos). Auch ist mir der Abgang deutlich zu kurz. Das Sample reicht mir definitiv.
