Spirit Gallery New Grove 100% Tropical 2015
Opinions genuinely divide on this one. Fans call it a New Grove "réinventé" — rich, oily, fruity with solvent, spice and brown sugar, exceptionally well-integrated for 60.3%. Skeptics say the wood dominates and the usual Mauritius markers (apricot, blackcurrant, mint) hide behind an oaky, drying grip. Most agree it needs a long air rest to open up.
The community says- Rich oily texture
- Well-integrated alcohol
- Keep in mind: Wood can dominate

Wow – what a bomb launched by Spirit Gallery!!🤤😎 Chapeau🤙🏻 I really enjoyed this rum a lot. Nose: A generous basket of ripe fruits, accompanied by a subtle hint of solvent, cashew nuts, and roasted almonds, topped with delicate shavings of dark chocolate. Palate: A fresh menthol and minty kick right from the start—like the first bite of a minty chewing gum. This is followed by layers of various fruits and gentle barrel notes. The wood stays nicely in the background, and the alcohol is exceptionally well integrated. Finish: Long and delicious, with lingering mint, pipe tobacco, and juicy peaches… simply yummy 🤤🤤🤤

Ripe Mauritius rum with a moderately clear Grays signature but influenced by tropical aging. On the nose, you get vanilla, honey, ripe yellow fruit, and wood, overall a bit stronger and warmer than many other Mauritius bottlings. On the palate, sweet fruit, spice, and a slightly dry woody note that gives structure. A touch too alcoholic for a higher rating. Feels solid, well-aged, without major highs or lows.

Clearly a reinvented New Grove profile, close to Jamaican on the nose, ultra-fat on the palate, almost Guyanese on the finish... A truly complex tasting, between sugar, sweetness, fruit, solvents, orange and beautiful spices. Perhaps lacking a touch on the finish to hit 9.3. Superb cask!

I approached the tasting of this rum with high expectations, as there is only one other bottling from the distillation year so far (which can be disregarded due to an Islay finish) (RX16784). My expectations were... well, maybe not disappointed, but definitely surprised – to put it kindly. But maybe I’m just spoiled by fantastic bottlings like RX2744 or RX13444 from the reliably good years 2009 and 2010. In any case, even after the third tasting (I didn’t take it lightly, I didn’t want to believe it), I can’t find any typical New Grove markers like apricot, currant, or mint; instead, the distillate is almost crushed by an overpowering woodiness. Yes, the rum feels oily and the alcohol seems well integrated, but New Grove? Nope, not recognizable to me. Conclusion: A powerful, barely fruity, rather woody-spicy rum that is claimed to be a New Grove... If that’s true, it definitely doesn’t play at the top level.

#6378 21.02.2026 Enjoying some samples whilt listening to some nice new Trance musik. Thanks for the samples Henrik, you are the best. What a nice rum with a nice price tag to go with it. Fruity with some nice solvents and good wood and ABV integration. Needs to rest for a while to really open up.

And yours is another tasty Mauritius. Mostly fruity on the nose, with some caramel also noticeable. On the palate, it's a bit different—still (yellow) fruits and caramel, but here it’s slightly roasted and woody.
Review by Jussi Piirainen
Taste: Fruity with blackcurrants and yellow fruit notes at first. Some brown sugar or caramel that provides some sweetness. Woody notes, roadted notes, light tobacco and minty notes come in after that. Good integration of alcohol. Finish: Fresh with woody, minty and light tobacco notes. Little bit of caramel. Dry and warm. This needs some time to open up. In overall, its woody and spice note driven rum. Price to quality is pretty good on this rum.

👃Right away, lots of tropical fruits quite typical of this distillery, but more concentrated than the New Grove 10 years. You also notice quite a bit of candied apples, giving it calvados notes, on a base of wax and cashew nuts or peanuts. Beeswax and honey coat everything, with the oak wood and tobacco. 👅 The attack is burning and drying. I've known better integrated alcohol. The spices are warm and spicy, with this cask coating the palate. Still very fruity with blackcurrant that quickly gives way to apricot marmalade, but again without any roundness. It's dry and astringent. The palate finishes on acidic grapefruit and this tobacco. ⛳️ The finish remains quite full-bodied but really dries out the throat too much. The tobacco and oak mingle with the spicy notes and a bit of minty freshness.

After a long break, a Grays New Grove in the glass again. Due to Gunnar's Mauritius splits, I was oversaturated for a while. In the last corner of my memory, I would place this solidly in the midfield.
Review by Djehey
Very cool! A beautiful mix of fruit, indulgence, and barrel aromas. It makes it very complete. Moreover, the alcohol is well integrated, it fills the whole mouth nicely, and there is a beautiful finish. Considering the price, it's top!

The alcohol is a little too powerful, which makes the otherwise pleasing profile too incisive - apart from that, mint, caramel, wood, spices, a little tobacco and yellow fruit are evident, i.e. a very Grays-typical taste. A good Mauritius release, but Grays offers this in a much more balanced form.
Review by Skyfly
A strong rum with lots of wood, spice and caramel. The typical Grays Marker like currant, apricot and mint stay strongly in the background. The alcohol is well integrated, but the bottling is far from the last Grays releases.
Review by Martin Spooner
On the nose, it is indeed alcoholic but not piercing. Has a hint of red fruits. On the palate, I was a bit wary of the strength because of the description. But it's manageable. Quite intense and really tastes good.
Review by Schnubbii
Very nice, light-fruity and "juicy" New Grove with medium complexity but very tasty profile. I like it better than the TDL 2009 from the same release.
Review by Filip Šikula
Interesting piece from Mauritius. A fairly rare vintage new grove offered great expectations, and certainly did not disappoint. Intense fruity nose, and the taste complements with fruit, spices, floral notes. There are also nicer pieces, but I enjoyed this quite a bit.
Review by Johannes
A good New Grove that probably became relatively smooth due to the Cognac cask. Normally, New Groves have more orange notes.
Review by Vidaa Wz
It's sooooo good!!! A very appealing color, with a seductive nose of yellow fruits and some subtle red fruit notes on the second nose. Aeration (1 hour 35 minutes) is almost essential to allow it to fully express its potential. The palate is less indulgent, with notes of apricot, a certain astringency, and an appreciable acidity. A beautiful finish of brown sugar and tobacco.

🥃 New Grove 2015 – 60.3% Unanimously selected during a New Grove masterclass with the Rhum Club Paris. 25 tasters. A single cask that everyone agrees on. This Mauritian cask strength (10 years 100% tropical) benefits from an atypical triple aging: New French cask → Ex-Cognac → Ex-Whisky. Result? Immediate indulgence, then cooked fruits (pear, blackcurrant, grapefruit), before a finish on soft spices, elegant woodiness and a nice vanilla. Intense, expressive, controlled. 👉 30% of votes for bottle of the evening. And clearly, a collective favorite.

A real pleasure to taste. We are definitely at New Grove with a beautiful complexity and a super pleasant length on the palate. So happy to have it in my cellar. Rush for it because there aren’t many left. Spirit Gallery delights us as usual I want to say.
Review by Jus Liens
Woody nose, wet wood, intense, warm, fruits. A spicy, warm, oily palate.
Review by Jacques etdom
On the nose, a lot of peach and wood (the latter is too present with its almost moldy side). You can also find a bit of glue and caramel. On the palate, unfortunately, the wood takes up too much space, which even makes the rum drying at the end of the mouth. Doesn't really resemble the Grays I usually have in my glass. Blind, I would have even guessed a mediocre 2009 TDL. Anyway, a bit of a disappointment. Edit: I take back a few points. With aeration, an unpleasant liqueur-like side that almost makes you suspect added sugar. I love NG, but here, it doesn't add up.

Review by bibi la légende
Nose: light solvents, vanilla, tropical fruits, dried fruits. Palate: astringent wood, fruity, roasted, bitter dark chocolate, spicy. Dark profile. Finish: beautiful caramel, woody, vanilla, nice length. Nice product, you have to give it time in the glass.
Review by Benoit CHATEL
Superb success this New Grove!!! Well fruity as we like it, the alcohol is well integrated.
Review by Pavel Ungr, RumRock
Vintage 2015. I rate it 8.3 out of 10, a very good rum.
Review by Solidfunk
Initial smell of caramel, lots of wood and some dates. Pours a dark mahogany amber. Initial tongue feel is sweet and floral. Then there is a little lemon, tangerine peel. Syrupy in texture. Booze burns fairly big on the end. Bottle split.

Absolutely mediocre. Only bloggers give high scores to this kind of stuff.
