Spirit Gallery T.D.L HEAVY 2009
"Viel Minze, Pfirsich" is how one member sums it up, and that's the core: mint sliding into menthol, red berries, peach and yellow fruit, with toasted wood and spice underneath. At 65.1% it's dense, dry and demanding — several tasters call it concentrated and not an easy sipper. A few find the alcohol a touch loud; most think it's well integrated.

Heavy, minty Trinidad rum with red fruit Loved by TDL fans for its menthol-and-red-fruit heft and depth. A couple find the high ABV slightly overpowering, and some rate earlier Spirit Gallery releases higher.

Powerful TDL with a clear, rather serious style. Dark fruit, molasses, leather and spicy wood on the nose, with a slight mineral note. Dense and dry on the palate with spice, tobacco, some bitter orange and a noticeable woody spiciness. Medium mint level. Concentrated and demanding, less focused on elegance than on structure. Not a simple sipper, but an honest, powerful Trinidad rum with depth and character.

Underrated! At least in my eyes. Tasted against one of the two T.D.L 2009 from Roots (RX20517). The oily Roots is brutally minty and usually nothing beats that for me; but the Spirit Gallery 2009 balances it out with roundness and elegance plus a hint of Cognac. Also, despite the higher ABV, the alcohol is better integrated. Conclusion: Neck and neck with RX20517, both flirting with the 90 mark. I'll say it again: Underrated!

#6380 21.02.2026 Enjoying some samples whilt listening to some nice new Trance musik. Thanks for the samples Henrik, you are the best. This is a very good TDL and I love the fruityness and eathy notes in it. The mint notes are very nice and medium intense. Overall very good balance between the elements.

The second T.D.L from Spirit Gallery. The first one was very good! This one is also very good! Typically, I discover a lot of peach and yellow fruits in the T.D.L. 2009 vintage. Here, however, in a very elegant form. Hats off to Spirit Gallery. And thanks @FischeJ for the sample.

You could almost say once you know one, you know them all. Still, a very good T.D.L. For me, it's purely mint on the nose, then a bit richer in flavors on the palate, with mint and menthol alongside some tobacco and wood.
Review by Thunderbird
Dieser TDL gefällt mir richtig gut. Perfekt eingebundener Alkohol, Minz-Mentholaromen, Karamellisiert, Würze, Holz…alles in allem sehr komplex.. in einer sehr harmonischen Form… das macht viel Spaß… eine gelungene Abfüllung

I think this rum did sit in the glass for a good 30 minutes before the review. On the nose: Strange and interesting at the same time. I get meaty ,smoky notes that almost reminds me of lightly smoked ham. Some red berriers/fruits and light minty notes in the background. Some woody notes. Taste: Menthol notes with hints of mint. Woody notes. Roasted. Red fruits. Tobacco notes. The abv is integrated very well. Trinidad rum notes, but nicely blended together. Finish: Warm with menthol, minty and woody notes. Light red fruits and light vegetal notes. Medium finish. Trinidad rum notes, but minty notes was not the dominating note on this one and it had some nice red fruits in there and overall the notes were blended together nicely. Price to quality is good on this one.

I had hopes to find a more recent interesting T.D.L, a bit like the one from Vagabond Spirit. But no. We do have the house markers but for me they are drowned out by too pronounced alcohol.
Review by Julien Ries
It's an opportunity to compare this rum with its predecessor. Nose: packed with red fruits, it's less blackcurrant than redcurrant and raspberry, but the menthol is still present. It's much less heavy and complex than the 2003, which had more spices and woodiness. The time in cask is also less... On the palate, you find this bite of fresh mint and a blackcurrant more pronounced than on the nose, but it's also less intense than its big brother. There's more spice with a hint of chili. A bit of black tea closes the show. Overall below the 2003 in intensity and its higher alcohol content (65.1%) does not bring more complexity and aromas than the 2003, which was an explosion of red fruits, wood and spices. Not disappointing either. The finish is long, fruity and floral (tea).
Review by Skyfly
Nice heavy TDL with lots of red fruit and tropical fruits, mint that develops into menthol on the palate, caramel adding a certain but subtle sweetness, and light toasted wood as well as spices. Interesting rum, but not a banger for me.

Another T.D.L. from 2009. This vintage appeals to me a bit more than the mint/menthol bombs around 2003. But from memory, I liked the 2009 from the bottleshop a bit better.
Review by Schnubbii
At first the nose is still a bit alcoholic, let it breathe! On the palate medium mint, slightly bitter, some leather, slight blackcurrant. Nice, complex profile. Unfortunately it lacks that nice oily heaviness and "juiciness" that I liked so much in the parallel tasting for the bottleshop bottling. Nevertheless a nice TDL 2009 that you can take with you, but don't necessarily have to.
Review by TheJackDrop
Ah this TDL is really exciting. The 2009 in the 2003 barrel which left a strong mark, it is even heavier than at the beginning of the year, ultra loaded, empyreumatic, complex. A ton of fruits, a very heavy side, menthol, some spices, a finish slightly softened by milk chocolate. Banger!
Review by Mentalo
I like the 2009 T.D.L vintage and also the Spirit Gallery bottling appeals to me. Mint, spices and a bit of menthol. Also nice fruity berry notes. Brings quite a bit of sweetness. But it doesn't quite reach the bottling from The Whisky Jury.

This TDL is magnificent, rich in fruits, with beautiful woody notes and a superb menthol ❤️❤️ Very nice length on the palate and the alcohol very well integrated There is a nice complexity, a nice heaviness, a real little candy ❤️
Review by Jakob
Offers much of the typical heavy TDL profile with intense mint aromas, dark fruits and tart wood and spice notes. Quite intense sweetness, which on the one hand is conducive to the drinking flow, but on the other is somewhat overwhelming. Thanks to its sophisticated complexity, however, this is a convincing release, even if it is clearly behind the first TDL from Spirit Gallery.

Lots of mint, peach. I really like it!

TDL 2009 – 65.1% We remember the TDL 2003 tasted previously: here is the first Spirit Gallery finish. A TDL 2009 Heavy rested 2 years in the famous TDL 2003 barrel, which was remarkable for its intense fruity profile. Result: very heavy and empyreumatic TDL notes, softened by a framework of red fruits and a subtle minty touch. Heavy, concentrated, demanding... and obviously appreciated: it was voted best bottle of the evening with 40% of the votes! At Rhum Mirror, we like powerful, rich and characterful TDLs, and this one ticks all the boxes.
Review by Vinsdorf
Wow wow. I am very surprised that I am the only one that this reminds me some 2001 TDLs. This is really outstanding gem, dirty at the beginning and more fruity and silk by the time. Alcohol is absolutely not present. I am Buying another bottle and compare with other TDL samples but I will probably raise it to 9.1. This deserves it. After several "average" TDLs on the market in recent month this is finally the one who deserves my attention. My TDL number 85. Good job Ben 👍
Review by Thefrenchagave
On the nose: Very greedy, with pep. Ripe exotic fruit, lovely acidity that brings freshness, almost pastry-like, and a real fruity sensation. On the palate: A lovely contrast between the fruit and a touch of menthol that adds relief. It's expressive, intense, carried by tangy fruit and a fine structure, with menthol as a common thread.

Nez sur les fruits rouge, pêche, menthe. Bouche grasse et explosive sur ces mêmes fruits rouges, fruits tropicaux, pêche, menthe, complexifié par des légères notes de pétrole. Excellent !

Vintage 2009. I rate it 8.5 out of 10, an excellent rum that ranks high even among my more than 1,300 ratings.
Review by GreG
Very interesting and quite complex, but with the well-known New Grove notes. Excellent work!

Review by Jus Liens
