"Wieder was gelernt" — most people didn't know Galápagos even made rum, and that novelty is half the appeal. Distilled from cane juice but tasting nothing like a classic agricole: caramel, vanilla, yellow fruit, young wood and a big load of spice (cinnamon, cardamom, allspice). Several tasters kept comparing the nose to a Foursquare. Pleasant and easy, though many wished for more depth.

This rum defies a clear flavor classification. It somehow stands somewhere between all styles. Notably, there is zero alcohol perceived on the nose. Even though the rum is certainly not a heavyweight, it is incredibly easy to drink. You get the association of yellow ripe fruits. And if you trust the taste of the 'farmer's palate', you should try to secure another bottle or at least a sample. 😉 I really like it a lot. It doesn't always have to be a clear style or a demanding rum.

First Galapagos rum for me. Very fruity and especially spicy with cinnamon, cardamom, and allspice, which personally is not really my thing. I consider the rum quite complex, but unfortunately it doesn't particularly please my taste.

On the palate, it definitely has a surprising sweetness for an unsweetened rum. The mouthfeel is a bit on the oily/viscous side. Along with the described spices, vanilla, and caramel, there are also some fruity notes. The finish is long and spice- as well as wood-focused; I find it quite smooth here too, an easy sipper. The relaxed ABV fits well with this.

On the nose, mainly caramel, vanilla, and fruit. I also imagine something floral. Then completely different in the mouth... fruit, apple, sour, but also chocolate and vanilla, especially towards the finish. Exciting!

8,2:On the nose, sugarcane, fresh with tea, vegetal with red bell peppers, tomatoes, grassy with hay, sweet, burnt rubber, roasted wood notes like burnt sugar, leather, spicy with allspice, cardamom, yellow, citrus fruits, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the cane is flowery, fermented, some fruits are candied, dried fruits join, pepper and vanilla, pastry and caramel. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is quite spicy with allspice, pepper, the wood is roasted with caramel, roasted nuts, burnt sugar, pastry, butterscotch, cocoa, leather, fruits like dried, yellow, citrus and apple play along, the cane is flowery, vegetal with red bell peppers, hay and tobacco. 8:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with roasted, smoky, spicy wood notes, pairing dark sugar cane with black tea and dried, yellow fruits, some candied.

Galapagos! I didn’t even know rum was distilled there. But first of all. Very interesting profile. The bottling can’t really convince me, but I’m curious what awaits us in the future. For me stronger on the palate than on the nose.

The first rum from Galapagos. I had never had it on my radar before that there is rum at all there. Respect to Dirk for tracking this down and bottling it. I personally like such underdogs. Conclusion, it’s good but didn’t fully convince me.

#6312 06/08.02.2026 My first visit to The Village in Nuremberg and it was a very pleasant surprise. I will definitely attend again as there is more than enough rum going around. This is a very decent rum that is floral and ends up a bit like perfume over time. At the same time it is also light and fruity with a good balance overall.

Since this is my first rum tasted from the Galapagos Islands, I naturally had no expectations regarding the flavor profile, but what’s in the glass here did surprise me, because the first sniff strikingly reminded me of a somewhat thin Foursquare. On the palate, the start is a bit chalky before a tasty mix of fruits, caramel, and spices develops. Only after a little resting time does it become clear on the nose that the rum is made from sugarcane juice and not molasses. I like it a lot and it’s pretty tasty, but also rather a simply styled sipper and therefore doesn’t leave a lasting impression.

👃🏼 = I smell orange, coconut, vanilla, varnish, caramel, and a slight woody note. 👄 = The attack is a bit sharp, then comes a roundness enhanced with chocolate and spices, ending on a short length. It seems younger than 10 years, maybe because of the double distillation and the light woodiness. Its very decent qualities and flavor balance don't make it a must-have, but having a rum from the Galápagos is really unusual 😮

Probably the first Galapagos single cask rum. On the nose, it looks like a hybrid of young Agricole and young Antigua/Barbados rum with a slight acidity as if from very fresh virgin oak. The palate is then slightly fruity but also woody and spicy. Lots of spices such as nutmeg, cardamom and cinnamon, as well as slightly smoky aromas... Overall, well-integrated alcohol and mild to drink but aromatically not a miracle of complexity. The finish is a little too bitter and smoky for me, but basically a good rum.

How cool, the first rum from Galapagos 😎🤯 Amazing! Nose: very inviting, yellow fruits, sugarcane, vanilla, lots of spices, wood. Top😏 Palate: rather modest, alcohol is present, sweet, woody - rather leathery, yellow fruits Finish: Long, dark chocolate, caramel. Definitely a knockout blind😏

Very promising nose, but unfortunately it falls a bit short in taste and lacks some fruitiness. Still remains varied. With water it gets a bit sweeter and more caramel-like and reminds me of a bourbon.

The nose doesn't make me think of sugarcane juice. If I didn't know better, I'd guess molasses. Not so easy to pin down. Besides the snifter, I also used a 1920 Blenders Glass to help. Vanilla, caramel, young wood, and numerous spice notes like cinnamon, allspice, and cardamom. Aromatically, it fits well into the pre-Christmas season. On the palate, it has quite a surprising sweetness for an unsweetened rum. The mouthfeel is somewhat oily/viscous. Along with the described spices, vanilla, and caramel, there are some fruity notes. These are again hard to specify. A zesty fresh note could be gooseberry. In combination with the spices, I also get something like baked apple. The finish is long and spice- and wood-focused (also young wood here). Taste-wise, it reminds me more of a molasses rum. I don't find typical sugarcane juice notes. It probably pairs perfectly with Christmas cookies and a chai. I find it quite pleasant, nothing that would scare or overwhelm anyone. The relaxed ABV fits well with that. Edit: On the second tasting, I clearly smelled a lentil dhal on the nose. Crazy bottling 🙈

Surprisingly mature and smooth. I thought this would be another edgy niche rum that’s mainly just different. But no, really like it. Hits the middle ground between Dom Rep and New Yarmouth. A recommendation for the price.

Unusual origin, familiar flavor profile. Or not? Nice sweetness and balance of yellow fruits, caramel, oak notes, dark spices. A gentle herbal touch appears in the finish, plus some nougat. Pleasant, nice mouthfeel, well-balanced alcohol. Should please.

Galapagos, and once again something new, great! Officially distilled from sugar cane juice, this rum is different from the other representatives of Agricoles. Only a slight hint of sugar cane juice can be found on the nose. Otherwise, it is spicy, roasty, with caramel and vanilla and a good portion of cocoa. For me, this is another exciting new discovery that I really like.

And I thought only turtles and lizards lived there...😄 Learned something new again. A sweet nose, candied fruits, spices and young wood, all quite subtle. Taste-wise not really my thing, slight confusion in the mouth. Thin, initially sour, then wood, leather and turning peppery. Finish is woody, dry and slightly smoky. The nose makes the points.

A step above your average Hispanic rum for sure. Florals and caramel on the nose. Some boozy tangerine. Pours golden. Wood in the mouth, maybe a little plum. Lemon on the finish that takes a while to die off--nice end. Samples thanks to bottle split from xamsx.

A pleasing rum with a few off notes that don't bother too much. A bit musty on the nose and metallic on the palate. Along with an intense sweetness on the palate, almost sticky. Like a wine sweetness... slightly alcoholic too. But also nicely intense and a fairly complex spiciness. Easy to drink without causing wild excitement. Blind, I'd have guessed it was sweetened. Easy sipper with clear cask influences. But I'd like more from Galapagos.

On the nose I clearly have typical Foursquare notes. Niss? Wood, caramel, a bit of coconut. On the palate then no more Foursquare. Wood and nut still subtly present. Along with something like sugarcane… The alcohol is very present. Just missed 8 points.

Doch, die Nase lässt mich doch an einen Agricole denken, mit Noten von Zuckerrohr und Gras. Dazu unterschiedliche Gewürze und gelbe Früchte. Die Nase für finde ich recht angenehm. Die Süße ist auch am Gaumen sehr präsent, als auch die gelben Früchte, Gewürze und etwas Holz. Dazu leichte Säure. Mittellanger Abgang, hauptsächlich mit leichtem Holz und Gewürzen. Insgesamt nicht schlecht, aber noch etwas einfach und eindimensional.
