The Whisky Jury The Duo (Chapter 4) - LP & HD 1998

Esters, glue and a fresh, oily banana core sit over young virgin-oak notes here — a blend of 1998 Long Pond and 2014 Hampden at cask strength. Most tasters recognize both Jamaican markers and enjoy the fruit-and-ester nose, but the young Hampden keeps pushing forward and the alcohol reads hot and loosely knit. Give it a good 30 minutes of air first.

Aggregated from 21 community reviews.

Young, hot LP-Hampden blend, ester-forward but rough A likable LP-and-Hampden blend that shows its youth: fruit, glue and esters up front, but hot alcohol, a short-to-medium finish and some bitterness leave several wanting more.

#6115 23.12.2025 Relaxing at Whisky Watcher in Odense. This is a pretty good blend and I am pretty sure that it will get even better after a few drams have been removed from the bottle and then left to mature in the bottle. Will get back to it after the holidays and see if it has gotten even better than it already is. After a while there is a faint flowery touch to the nose.

This rum is a blend of 60% Long Pond from 1998 and 40% Hampden from 2014. I think this rum did sit in the glass for a good 30 minutes before the review. On the nose: Esters, woody notes, glue notes mixed with dried fruit notes. After sitting in the glass you get more floral and citrus notes in there aswell. Alcoholic. Taste: Fresh, oily mouthfeel, esters, light woody notes, banana notes, some citrus notes like orange peel. Mouthfeel changes towards more bitter and little bit of vegetal/floral notes. The abv could be integrated better. Finish: Oily, citrus notes, light banana notes and woody notes. Dry. Medium finish. I feel like fruity notes on this one were on the background and the overall profile of vegetal/floral notes with bitterness didn't work for me also the integration of alcohol could have been better.

Well, I get the feeling that this Duo series is getting a bit more expensive with each release while the quality declines. I find this bottling a bit too alcoholic.

Nose very sharp and overloaded with alcohol... Long Pond and Hampden genes can be recognized, although quite unripe. Lots of fresh olive and floral notes as well as very virgin oak-heavy, at least that's what you think on the nose... Absolutely not my thing. On the palate... Alcohol initially better integrated but then quickly comes through sharp. Tropical fruits and some marzipan... also good esters. Also feels a bit wild and unripe here. Nice but nothing I need (bottle).

Netter Blend für Einsteiger. Man erkennt die beiden Marker. Leider sind die Geschmacksaromen etwas schwach, hingegen der Alkohol recht stark zu spüren. Mehr als ein Sample brauche ich hier definitiv nicht.

I really can't do anything with this bottling. Neither fish nor fowl... the basic aromas from Long Pond and Hampden are faintly recognizable, but they don't really harmonize well for me. Plus, the alcohol is poorly integrated for the relative strength.

Schon ganz gut trinkbar. Keine Kaufempfehlung.

So overall, it's not bad, even if it's missing a little something. You can really feel the two different origins, which actually blend pretty well. Nice fruit aromas, a bit of woodiness, some spices, a bit of glue, and plenty of esters. It has a nice length on the palate, and to soften the alcoholic side, let it breathe for half an hour.
