Most tasters land in the same happy place here: a young Hampden that punches with glue, solvent and varnish but keeps the alcohol surprisingly well-tucked for 64%. Pineapple, coconut and green banana ride on top, with light oak and a tobacco-tinged finish. A couple note it reads a touch sweet and can't quite match older 9+ Hampdens on balance — but almost nobody minds.

Once again a young cheeky Ester Hunter Hampden C<>H... but the good kind. Despite its young age, this rum is already quite balanced in its aromas, and the interplay between esters, fruit, and wood is top-notch.

👃 Tons of esters, glue, varnish, acetone, and paper pulp. Plastics, new sneaker smells at the swoosh. Petrol notes, a gas station in the middle of nowhere with dry hay nearby. These empyreumatic and trigeminal characteristics also give way to exotic fruits, fresh and overripe pineapple leading, of course jackfruit, green Indian Ocean banana, fresh coconut, candied and salted yellow lemon. Light exotic wood in the background. An excellent nose that will reward any Hampden lover. 😋 Lots of esters, intensity, liveliness while having very good alcohol integration. With aeration, no need for water. Solvents, exotic wood care products, glue, oily impression (coconut), astringency. Lots of fruit too, ripe and overripe for some (pineapple, jackfruit, mango), green (banana) and others with a candied side (citrus). An explosive palate while remaining pleasant. ⛳ Long lasting without being excessive in intensity, without that being a flaw. Astringency, vinegar, salt, pepper, light brine, yellow lemon, a coastal side on seaweed, smoked oysters. You could eat it... 🫗 An empty glass biphasic smelling on one side synthetic, notably modeling clay (glycerin, petroleum derivatives) and on the other, coasts with sea spray, an oyster trap fire. 💡 Esterified, intense, funky bomb as desired with very good drinkability. Time and oxidation reveal tertiary notes much subtler than at first glance. A young Hampden that has everything you can expect from a high value in volatile compounds. 🏅 For a recommended retail price of €84, you get your money's worth. Hard to find better at this price today (especially compared to Velier releases). Thanks to Joeri for letting us taste these kinds of gems at low prices.

So this Ester Hunter bottling from Whisky Jury convinces me once again. For the price, you really get a great high ester Jamaica vibe here. Not much more to say about it. I like it.

#7067 20.07.2026 Relaxing with a few samples after and OK work day and a super fast hike back home. Streaming some Tomorrow Land from this weekend. Very good rum with an equally good price tag at release. Intense and fruity profile with eter, plolish, ruits, glue, tar, roasted wood and some tobacco.

For me, one of the better bottlings in the Ester Hunter series (only #1 I like a little bit more). A young HD with an extreme amount of esters/ glue/ varnish on the nose and palate; the finish doesn’t last forever. The whole bouquet of tropical fruits is present, especially pineapple and banana. On the palate also some candied notes and a bit of tobacco in the finish.

First reaction on the nose is that its surprisingly round and balanced for a 6 years old. On the nose: Esters, light glue, solvents,pineapples and light banana notes are nicely mixed with light sweet note. Light coconut notes, light little bit of sour citrus notes. Good integration of alcohol. Taste: Medium esters, light glue notes, pineapples and bananas mixed with mild oily mouthfeel. Balanced. Again there is somekind of sweet note that balances the notes. Excellent integration of alcohol. Delicious Finish: Esters, overripe pineapples. Light Ginger. Light floral notes. Dry. Long finish. Wow, this one has nice balance and roundness with good amount of intensity. The notes were integrated very well together with that nice oily mouthfeel. I can absolutely recommend rum.

Another very nice release from TWJ with this 3rd opus from Hampden that I'm enjoying in the Hunter series. For me, it's the best of the three anyway (I gave 8, 9, and 7 to the other two). Nice roundness, a high alcohol level but well integrated, after some airing of course, notes of pineapple solvents, banana, a bit of apricot, dark chocolate, tobacco... a good explosive cocktail in the mouth ❤️❤️❤️

#1706 18-12-2025 - Rate 8.6 This is my second Hunting rum. A great series so far. And this one keeps the bar high. Hampden with sweet spot mark and high ABV. Sometimes the young high ABV Hampdens could use some more age, but this is bottled at a great time. Nose of coconut, pineapple, ester, glue and oak. Palate of coconut, ester, oak and tropical fruits. Long finish dominated by ester, oak and a hint of tobacco 31-12-2025 - Rate 7.9

Bei beiden Ester Hunter (Catch 5 und Catch 9) die ich parallel probiere ist der Alkohol sehr gut eingebunden. Bei diesem Rum ist die Funk, fruchtig, Uhu Komponente nicht so ausgeprägt, was ich sehr schön finde. Eher milder. Habe #9 zuerst probiert. Drehe die Reihe beim nächsten Mal um und berichte. BTW: fruchtfliegen und Ameisen erkennen sofort einen guten Jamaikaner. Harte Abwehrkämpfe😂

The Whisky Jury – Ester Hunter 5 - Hampden C<>H 2018 – 64.3% Signed by The Whisky Jury, renowned for its sharp selections, this fifth opus in The Ester Hunter series puts the Hampden distillery in the spotlight. This 2018 C<>H, bottled at 64.3% cask strength, sets the tone and doesn't do things by halves. A continental Hampden this young at this strength could easily fall into the trap of astringency... but here, everything we love about Hampden is present: glue, varnish, nail polish remover, and above all, a veritable explosion of flavors. 🔸 Nose: coconut, pineapple, esters galore. 🔸 Palate: a wave of esters, ripe tropical fruits, marked but controlled woodiness. 🔸 Finish: surprisingly long for such a young rum, with notes of tobacco. A very nice one, much more convincing in my opinion than batch 2 (Savanna/Hampden blend), which I found disappointing at Spa.

Very rare rum, by whisky jury. Nose: Bright aromas of pineapple, esters, glue, solvents, oak, polish, bergamot, aprico, banana. Little bit of cedar, Tonka been & roots, iodine. Palate: pineapple, glue, esters, coconut, acid, solvents, polish, hay. Sweet caramel candies, lot of fruits, citrus & oak. Aftertaste: long, dry, little bit spicy. Wow. Amazing rum ! Complex. Great balanced. Fantastic!

Everything you would expect from a good single cask Hampden, and remarkably flavorful for its young age. I find it very tasty! It is a bit sweet and, in my opinion, cannot quite measure up to 9+ Hampdens in terms of balance and expression; it's the balance or something, but it is also much more affordable. PLV/PQR is insanely good.

Richtig schöner, junger, knackiger Hampden mit viel Estern/dem vollen Obstkorb und Oliven und Salzlake im Abgang. Der macht richtig Spaß, hier hätte ich im Nachhinein gerne eine Flasche gehabt.

Waaa, belle claque d'équilibre et d'intégration de l'alcool... Un Jam high ester bien assumé, et évidemment chez Hampden ça commence par une belle dose de fruits exotiques ( Ananas / Coco / Mangue / Banane ) quelques fruits rouges aigre ( Cerise / Fraise ) ainsi que de la bergamote. Pour un rhum aussi jeune je suis surpris par son boisé qui nous réconforte avec ces épices ( Muscade / Girofle / Poivre / Canelle / Vanille ), ce côté toasté ( Café / Chocolat noir / Amande grillé / Fumé ) et sa gourmandise ( Sucre brûle / Pralin / Crème brûlé ). Forcément un High Ester de chez Hampden en brut de fût sans averses de notes empyreumatique ( Caoutchouc / Colle / Cuivre / Vernis / Solvant / Plastique chaud ) n'est pas ! Pour finir une touche mentholé et légèrement herbacé vien rafraîchir ce rhum. Une très très beau rhum 👍

Ripe banana Sunday on the nose. Big vibe in that direction here. With vanilla. Pours clear pale golden. Mouthful has a dose of citrus. Super rich mouth feel. Dried fruit and candy. A hint of tang in the finish. Medium finish, almost short. Sample split thanks to xamsx.

Starkes junges Aromenbrett. Wer Hampden mag, macht hier nichts verkehrt. Geschmacklich alles was man erwarten darf. Im Mai Tai eine Bombe. Leider ist meine Flasche schon fast leer.
