Hampden Plantation Prestige Cellar Jamaica (Exclusive for the UK) 2001
Hampden hunters who want the loud stuff softened by real age — this is your bottle. Nail polish, glue and smoked bacon jump out first, then pineapple, overripe banana and marzipan fill in. At 58.6% it's powerful but drinks easy, with the alcohol well integrated. The finish turns dry and spicy; one taster found it "too sour in the end," most just call it a wild ride worth taking.

Man, I really have to admit that this rum isn’t that great. It tastes good, but it’s far from a 9.0. Too bad it has to end like this, but good ratings don’t just come out of nowhere ;)

Nice Hampden profile, but too sour in the end

Incredibly delicious 2001 HD <>H 😋 on the level of the Cuvee Rum Addict #2

Highly complex and very fruity best describes the first impression... Very intensely fruity with a good ester punch... pineapple, marzipan, banana, some citrus fruits. On the palate, very full-bodied, slightly biting... lots of power, esters, fully ripe pineapple, banana, a bit of marzipan; in the finish, some leather and bitterness from the cask. Awesome stuff!! Actually better neat than in a Mai Tai.

April 25, 2026 — tasting at home. An incredible rum. The nose already reveals a highly technical profile where you can find everything—from glue and bacon to pineapple. A very long, lingering finish. Definitely recommended.

The tropical ripeness is impressive. Lots of red fruits, nail polish, and tropical and dried fruits. Along with wood influence and cool, dry notes of peppermint and cassis. The musty ester dunder is also noticeable as a secondary note. In the mouth, a nicely voluminous spread. The esters come through well, some acidity and dryness let you taste the 813 g/hL AA. Overall, the long aging has a harmonizing effect, yet there is still power and wildness. The fermentation definitely helped here. Very easy to drink at 58.6%. The bouquet would probably be even more powerful with a bit more volume, but that doesn’t bother me in the least. The finish is dry and very spicy, tropical fruits recede into the background. Basically medium-long, but there is a flavor film on the palate and throat that lingers very long. The longer I explore this rum, the more impressive I find it. Planteray once again with a great bottling.

Incredibly good Hampden with amazing fruits like pineapple, peach, and apricot, little acidity, tropical cask influence. Alcohol is super well integrated. Pretty much perfect!

Top.
