One taster called it an "Outstanding Caroni that touches all my sweet spots," and the crowd agrees. This 1992 Velier is thick and oily, full of tar, rubber and bicycle-tube funk, cut through with a cooling menthol-mint streak and ripe tropical fruit. At 60% the alcohol sits perfectly integrated. Several rate it their best Caroni ever, though a couple wanted a touch more sweetness.

O,5cl im 1920s Blenders reichen, um in den Caroni Himmel zu kommen. 🤩 Benzin, Teer, Fahrradschlauch in epischer Pracht. Fisherman’s Friends. Dahinter reife Mango, etwas Zitrus, Eiche und Gewürze. Kräftig und ausgewogen. Zum Niederknien!! Im Mund holzig, ölig und harzig. Ich nuckle an der Zapfsäule.☺️ Und dann noch ein langer Abgang. Frisch, holzig-würzig und Fahrradschlauch. Phänomenaler Caroni!! Würde sagen, da hatte ich noch keinen besseren. 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹 Vielen Dank nach Bonn für dieses Megasample!!

A Caroni nose but with lots of fruit (apple, acerola, pear), tropical fruit and a Demerara side with old leather, old varnished wood and smoke. Silky, frosty entry, then fruit invades the palate. An aromatic bomb. Ripe tropical fruit, but also pear and apricot, menthol and herbs. Hints of machine shop are present, but in the background. There's an incredible freshness to this rum, reminiscent of frosted mandarin oranges. A long, majestic, rich and coherent finish (the kind of rum you can still smell when you wake up in the morning). A magnificent rum that lives up to its reputation, balanced in flavor and better than its little 55% brother.

Hier bekommt man Caroni Essenz.... Hoch konzentrierte, intensive, tiefe und komplexe Nase. Viel Möbelpolitur wie bei 96, aber auch dreckige Aromen, die man aus 98 und 2000 kennt. Viel süße, Honig, Vanille, Karamell. Im Gaumen eine Geschmacksexplosion, unglaublich mundfüllend, ölig und süß. Selten hatte ich einen Rum, der mich geschmacklich so zu überzeugen wusste. ERGÄNZUNG: Ich finde ihn immer noch richtig gut, es ist für mich allerdings nicht mehr die Nr 1, so wie das man war. Der Rum hat schon eine extremen Reifegrad, worauf man wirklich Bock haben muss. Es gab Tage, an denen mir das auch mal definitiv too much war. Trotzdem ist das natürlich nach wie vor hohes Niveau!

A sensational Caroni that represents the very essence of the late distillery. The nose is of rare depth, complexity and intensity. Menthol counterbalances empyreumatic notes (tar, rubber, smoke), oak, spices and leather to bring a welcome breath of freshness to this dark profile. Fruits (tropical in particular) take a back seat, but add a much-appreciated gourmet touch. A dirty rum, enchanting and complete. The attack on the palate is grandiose, with the fresh menthol still resting like velvet on the smoky notes, tar and rubber typical of Caroni. Spices (anise, pepper, vanilla), oak, walnuts, caramel, dried and exotic fruits form an ensemble of great clarity, depth, complexity and exquisiteness. The profile may be intense and very dry on the tannins, but the alcohol remains perfectly well integrated. The finish is long, dry, tannic, woody and empyreumatic. Spicy notes are present, but a saline edge adds complexity. Licorice, tobacco, berries and caramel give the final impression on the palate of a mythical rum, which has everything to please and will go down in legend as a benchmark in its field.

This is a great Caroni and you know as soon as you open the bottle. The flavours just come at you right away. The nose is elegant and typical Caroni with tar and rubber trailed by flowers, fruit, caramel and a hint of mocha and cinnamon. The palate is spicy and complex and very well balanced, again with the typical Caroni tar and rubber trailed by fruit, wood and a slight hint of menthol. The finish is forever and lightly dry with fruit, tar and wood spices. I recommend leaving the empty glass and then nose it after a few hours.

Update: To celebrate the legalization of cannabis in the Federal Council, a third time in a glass today. Still surprisingly cool and tasty. The more pronounced (but beautiful) wood bitterness and the menthol are particularly appealing to me. It's amazing how much it differs from its High Proof brother. Red berries and red fruits are added here ... without too much annoying sweetness. Second tasting as part of the Rum X Rarities tasting: Now in peace and quiet and sober even more awesome.

Gegenüber der 55%-Version merkt man nicht nur etwas mehr Power. In der Nase und am Gaumen kommen noch paar schöne Nuancen hinzu. Erneute Verkostung im Rahmen der RumX Rarities Experience bestätigt meine bisherige Eindrücke. So mit das Beste was ich bisher im Glas hatte. Und wieder die Erfahrung gemacht, dass man den meisten Rums viel Zeit im Glas geben muss um alles rauszuholen. Heute Morgen riecht das Glas immer noch phänomenal, am liebsten würde ich es nie wieder spülen.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at the time of its greatest glory rum, which was added at a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who took a liking to the rum because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum.

"Happy Birthday to my son ! RumX RARITIES 5 sounded on point for this first Birthday. Crazy aromas, very thick, complex and really long. Love the fruits, leather, wood, menthol and unknown things ! Grandiose Caroni from my year of birth 1992, very complex, balanced and elegant. Alcohol perfectly integrated. Papaya, cinnamon and sandalwood come together aromatically on the nose. Mint, menthol, cinnamon, caramelized apricots and red berries with cookie dough crumbs like a delicious peach crumble. An almost endless finish. Great! Thank you Oli!😃❣️

Rarities Tasting #5. And what a Caroni! In Tokaji Aszu wine, there is the particularly concentrated Aszu Eszencia. That's just what this is, a 'Caroni Essence'. Everything you would expect from a good (tropical) Caroni, only more concentrated, and all in a lovely balance of dirty and fruity notes ! My express thanks to Jakob!

The nose is already incredibly deep and complex. Rubber, varnish, intense wood and a light mint. One finds here everything one expects from Caroni. Heavenly. On the palate you find a real Caroni concentrate. Spice, rubber, wood, tropical fruit are perfectly melded together by the long, tropical aging. Absolute Caroni Champions League!

Blindverkostung am 20.10.2024: Tippe auf einen tropisch gelagerten Guyana Rum. Typisch dunkle Farbe. Schöne intensive Aromen nach Vanille, getrockneten Früchten und einer angenehmen Süße. Bin gespannt auf die Auflösung. Auflösung: Caroni, und was für ein schöner. Der Rum braucht aber seine Zeit um sich zu entwickeln.

Quite close to the 18 years old FP version but we can feel the additional aging. Indeed, nose is slightly darker and palate feels a bit less funky and fruity than the "Cow" despite being already more funky than the nose. Same conclusion here, astonashing rum, probably one of the best I ever tasted ! 🖤🤍❤️

Nicely balanced, not as dirty for me as 1994, which makes it more complex with finer flowery, minty and fruity notes. Overall very good integration, wonder if waiting even longer than one hour would release more flavours, maybe would benefit also from a drop of water, I haven't checked it.

Great nose! Complex on the palate, somewhat typical dirty Caronino notes, which are very well integrated! Long finish! Fantastic! Epic Velier Caroni Tasting: insane complexity, power, must be a 92, long finish. For me, the Caroni Champions League!

This is a clear 3 points up from the 55%. Eventhoug it handled watering down well, this is intense, some glue that wasnt in the reduced and in all around demerara funk. Quite lovely stuff and high end Caroni.
