Tasted this extremely and exceptionally aged rare rum during my recent visit to the distillery supervised by Larry Warren. This is by moment the oldest Foursquare distilled rum for sale, only possible to buy at the St. Nicholas Abbey distillery to a very high price. Larry told us that he still has some even older barreled, but that it now is below 40%. Unfortunately we tasted it after tasting their 8yo and 12yo at 60%, which maybe affected the judgement. The nose is soft, round, smooth, fruity and spicy with scents of caramel, apricots, figs, clove, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and tobacco. At the palate it’s extremely smooth almost velvety, woody, fruity and spicy with flavors of oak, coffee, dark chocolate, currant, peach, orange, baking spice, cinnamon and a little bitter. The finish is medium long.
