Not the Jamaica you brace for — this old Clarendon runs low on ester and high on fruit. Apple, mango and mandarin lead, with a distinct salty streak nobody can quite explain and a soft honeyed sweetness some read as almost sweetened. The 25 years round it right off, so even at 61% the alcohol sits well integrated. One taster clocked a "dry almost agricole like quality" underneath.

Sample from HanseSpirit '26. A very fine, old Clarendon that deserves some concentration. Nose: almost reserved, very fine nose. It starts initially with a lovely, honey-sweet softness, floral and flowery but also vegetal. A freshly cut rose comes to mind. Mango or papaya also fit. Against that is a slight yogurt note and the smell of cardboard. At the back it becomes more herbal with dried thyme, basil and some licorice. Very smooth and simply beautiful. 8.6 Palate: again elegant and fine. A lot going on, very close together. Immediately comes a floral, flowery sweetness and a delicate tangerine note. Along with plenty of fruit bread with citron and orange peel. Sweet and bacon-like tonka bean together with baking spices and licorice. Also I find again something vegetal towards chamomile and sesame. Very unusual, reserved, fine and therefore interesting low-low-ester Clarendon. 8.4

Hanse Spirit Hamburg February 2026. This Clarendon isn’t one of the best either. It’s relatively fruity and you can also detect some herbs, but somehow it’s not my thing. Maybe because of the salt, although I usually like that ;)

#6341 06/08.02.2026 My first visit to The Village in Nuremberg and it was a very pleasant surprise. I will definitely attend again as there is more than enough rum going around. Despite this rum being a low ester, the age has become it very well in my mind. Fruity and well balanced with very good ABV integration. Unfortunately I did not succeed in getting a bottle, but that may have been lucky because I spent far too much on the event as such.

Very rounded Clarendon, the long aging has done it very well. The wood is not too pronounced; salty and sweet aromas (confectionery) harmonize well, with the sweetness almost perceived as sweetened. Alcohol really well integrated.

Addendum from Village'26. Tasted with the guys from Kirsch/FRC. For me, not an extraordinary bottling that I would absolutely need. But for a 2000 Clarendon, I lack a comparison. My conclusion is still very good though.

Once again a continental aged Clarendon. Brings a lot of salt (where FRC got that from? 🤔) Then some herbs. And plenty of fruit. Especially apple and mango can be tasted here. Overall a well drinkable bottling that still brings enough fruit power in the finish. Actually surprisingly well done.

#1768 Whisky Watcher Tasting 11-04-2026 - Rate 8.5 Again FRC puts out a great bottle. They are turning in to one of my favorite bottler’s. They had a really strong 2025. I like the dry almost agricole like quality that old Clarendon has.

25 years (10 tropical). Very smooth!! Despite 61% and a freshly opened bottle, no sting on the nose. Well integrated alcohol. Taste almost like a Port mourant. Brine and olive. Mellow warm finish. Still esters and funk. Then got some more Clarendon bottlings. Looking forward to trying them.

Solid Clarendon, easy sipper, not too complex. Alcohol is well integrated. Some tropical fruits, light esters. Astringent on the tongue, slightly bitter wood note. For me a classic mid-range rum, nothing special but not bad either. Sample is (for me) completely sufficient.
