Velier Foursquare Indomitas 2010
"The cognac cask really does a lot of work," as one taster put it — and that's the story here. You get the usual Foursquare markers (coconut, vanilla, caramel) rounded out by red grape, fig and dried fruit from nine years in ex-cognac wood. It's rich, oily and warm, with a long woody finish. A few found it too oak-dry late on, but most loved the balance at 62%.
The community says- Cognac-cask fruit
- Great ABV integration
- But: Woody, bitter finish

How does Velier Foursquare Indomitas 2010 taste?
Aggregated from 73 community reviews.
Rich Foursquare with a cognac-cask twist Loved as a rich, well-integrated Foursquare where the cognac cask adds grape and dried fruit. The only real gripe: a few find it too woody and bitter on the finish.

Great nose of red grapes, coconut, dried as well as fresh fig, roasted nuts, and cookie dough. On the palate, then slightly salty, spicy, heavy, and thickly oily. Very intense and really lays thick on the tongue. The Cognac finish also complements the typical well-known Foursquare aroma here with red grapes, fig, sea salt, and intense tannins. The finish is then slightly herbal and more wood-forward. Certain parallels to the Sassafras with Cognac finish can be recognized, but I think the alcohol integration is clearly better here. Direct comparison is still pending. Nice release, although not an absolute must-have for me!

First impression: Once again a successful bottling, the finish in both Bourbon and Cognac rounds off the flavor profile nicely. The markers are easy to smell and taste. Detailed review to follow. For me around a 9. For now, an 8.8.

Tasting on 08.07.2026 RX 25923 Foursquare Velier Whisky Watcher sample. Nose: Fine sweet cognac cask, coconut caramel and vanilla. Palate: Fruity with red grapes. Figs and cognac tannins. Cocoa, caramel and vanilla with a slightly salty finish. The cognac cask adds a lovely spicy finish. The glass: Spicy cask influence. Tasting "In the cave"

As expected, a high-level Foursquare with typical FS essence. The Cognac cask was used so long that mainly wood, roasted aromas, and chocolate came through. Then there are the red fruits or the earthiness you can associate with Cognac. On the palate also nutty, woody, fruity, cocoa, and caramel. Criticism: too dry and woody in the mouth. At €170, also somewhat fairer than the previous releases.

#6832 22.05.2026 Tasting with the "gang" and what a wonderful evening we had 😊🙏🥃 A medium intense yet well balanced release by Velier. The price tag is also OK in my mind. A fruity rum with nice caramel, herbs, light polish, some caramel and nice roasted wood.

Coherent Foursquare. Alcohol well integrated... Less fruit but more coconut, chocolate, fig, caramel, and grapes... The cognac cask is clearly noticeable in the nose and taste, which I personally really like. Nice sweetness.

Nice FSQ release where the Cognac cask provides the final touch. Besides the typical markers, you can taste the consistent influence of grape and fig. On the palate and even more in the finish, both salty and coffee aromas.
Review by DomM
Very intense. The cognac cask really does a lot of work adding continental fruits.

Rahmendaten ähnlich wie beim Sassafras, allerdings bisschen andere Reifezeiten (Ind.: 6 Bourb./ 9 Cogn., Sass.: 3 Bourb. / 11Cogn.). Erstmal etwas lüften lassen, die 62% ABV schieben schon ganz ordentlich. Dann kommt ziemlich viel Kokosnuss an der Nase. Daneben Karamell, Fass, Traube. Am Gaumen schöner Wechsel zwischen herben Noten und Milchkaffee. Insgesamt recht gefällig, vielleicht fehlt etwas das Überraschende, wie zB beim Equidem.

Nice bottling. The usual Foursquare notes, subtly complemented by fruity aromas from aging in a Cognac cask. I already liked the ECS Touchstone, but this one is even better and smoother. Still, for me personally, it's not quite as good as Pleni or Absolutio.

A very atypical Foursquare compared to its predecessors... on the nose, dark and intense with roasting, wood, coffee, and cocoa taking the lead. Same story on the palate but the flavors come through more gently and the concentration of flavors is weaker, and for the first time among all Velier bottlings, I find the alcohol not perfectly integrated!

#1758 28-03-2026 - Rate 8.8 I really like this one. Better than Fidelity’s, which was overrated. Was a bit afraid of the long cougnac maturation. But it’s actually really nice. One of the better Velier Foursquare bottelings
Review by Tschusikowsky
Tropical depth, clear cask influence. Nut, wood, dry with a sweet note, cappuccino and dried fruit. Well balanced on the palate, with good alcohol integration. The finish is clean and pleasant. Taste-wise, top-notch, a good release. But the cask strength bottlings don’t really excite me. They’re different, but still similar. I miss real variety and change or surprise. Super solid but somehow nothing more.

The Foursquare Indomitas is the twelfth joint release by Richard Seale and Luca Gargano. Distilled in 2010, six years ex-bourbon, nine years ex-cognac. On the nose, you first find notes of varnish and sulfur before dried fruits, ripe peach, and the freshness of tropical fruits and coconut unfold. Rich caramel and vanilla sweetness, elegant spice of allspice and licorice, subtle roasted aromas. The palate is powerful, the alcohol is noticeable but also offers a rich spectrum of heavy caramel sweetness, cognac aromas, tropical fruits as well as dark spices, earthy notes, and mineral hints. The wood also shows bitter notes, but they don’t become too dominant. The finish is long-lasting, sweetness and bitterness in a nice balance.

A very successful bottling! Everything a Foursquare needs. Nice tropical influences, wood, cocoa, tobacco, dried plum. Very smooth for 62%. Also, not too much column still coming through. Very good!

Wow, this surprised me. Although with a Foursquare, it was to be expected. Very well-balanced, with a slight sharpness but only briefly. Then the fruits come through with a bit of sweetness. I'm even more impressed the second time and raise it by 0.1.
Review by bavarian-rumlover
Nice, cognac in the finish, thick and oily, spicy, a bit of coconut and cookie dough. Warm, pleasant taste, wood clearly noticeable but very well integrated. Complex aromas and long finish. I really enjoyed it.

Schöne Foursquare nase mit Kokos, Vanille und getrockneten Früchten. Am Gaumen dann mit einer uberraschefen wärme. Fast traubenartiger Geschmack. Schönes Aroma und ein würdiger Vertreter der distille.
Review by Julien Ries

You find the usual Foursquare pattern... always the same notes of fruit, spices, with a nice length, a very appreciable alcohol level, and a very nice finish. The cognac finish is pretty good, I really like it. ❤️❤️
