Velier Foursquare Indomitas 2010
"The cognac cask really does a lot of work," as one taster put it — and that's the story here. You get the usual Foursquare markers (coconut, vanilla, caramel) rounded out by red grape, fig and dried fruit from nine years in ex-cognac wood. It's rich, oily and warm, with a long woody finish. A few found it too oak-dry late on, but most loved the balance at 62%.

How does Velier Foursquare Indomitas 2010 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Rich Foursquare with a cognac-cask twist Loved as a rich, well-integrated Foursquare where the cognac cask adds grape and dried fruit. The only real gripe: a few find it too woody and bitter on the finish.

Great nose of red grapes, coconut, dried as well as fresh fig, roasted nuts, and cookie dough. On the palate, then slightly salty, spicy, heavy, and thickly oily. Very intense and really lays thick on the tongue. The Cognac finish also complements the typical well-known Foursquare aroma here with red grapes, fig, sea salt, and intense tannins. The finish is then slightly herbal and more wood-forward. Certain parallels to the Sassafras with Cognac finish can be recognized, but I think the alcohol integration is clearly better here. Direct comparison is still pending. Nice release, although not an absolute must-have for me!

First impression: Once again a successful bottling, the finish in both Bourbon and Cognac rounds off the flavor profile nicely. The markers are easy to smell and taste. Detailed review to follow. For me around a 9. For now, an 8.8.

A lot of alcohol taste, few of coconut.

Tasting on 08.07.2026 RX 25923 Foursquare Velier Whisky Watcher sample. Nose: Fine sweet cognac cask, coconut caramel and vanilla. Palate: Fruity with red grapes. Figs and cognac tannins. Cocoa, caramel and vanilla with a slightly salty finish. The cognac cask adds a lovely spicy finish. The glass: Spicy cask influence. Tasting "In the cave"
Review by Tim
As expected, a high-level Foursquare with typical FS essence. The Cognac cask was used so long that mainly wood, roasted aromas, and chocolate came through. Then there are the red fruits or the earthiness you can associate with Cognac. On the palate also nutty, woody, fruity, cocoa, and caramel. Criticism: too dry and woody in the mouth. At €170, also somewhat fairer than the previous releases.

#6832 22.05.2026 Tasting with the "gang" and what a wonderful evening we had 😊🙏🥃 A medium intense yet well balanced release by Velier. The price tag is also OK in my mind. A fruity rum with nice caramel, herbs, light polish, some caramel and nice roasted wood.

Coherent Foursquare. Alcohol well integrated... Less fruit but more coconut, chocolate, fig, caramel, and grapes... The cognac cask is clearly noticeable in the nose and taste, which I personally really like. Nice sweetness.
Review by Timo Groeger
Yes, this is a Foursquare, exactly what I expect from this distillery, really good. Coconut is definitely noticeable, otherwise a nice sweetness thanks to vanilla, caramel, and chocolate. A top Foursquare.
Review by Skyfly
Nice FSQ release where the Cognac cask provides the final touch. Besides the typical markers, you can taste the consistent influence of grape and fig. On the palate and even more in the finish, both salty and coffee aromas.
Review by DomM
Very intense. The cognac cask really does a lot of work adding continental fruits.
Review by mto75
Basic data similar to the Sassafras, but with slightly different aging times (Ind.: 6 Bourb./9 Cogn., Sass.: 3 Bourb./11 Cogn.). Let it breathe a bit first, the 62% ABV really pack a punch. Then you get quite a lot of coconut on the nose. Alongside that, caramel, barrel, grape. On the palate, a nice balance between bitter notes and milk coffee. Overall quite pleasant, maybe missing a bit of the surprise factor, like with the Equidem.
Review by Giorgio Garotti
A very atypical Foursquare compared to its predecessors... on the nose, dark and intense with roasting, wood, coffee, and cocoa taking the lead. Same story on the palate but the flavors come through more gently and the concentration of flavors is weaker, and for the first time among all Velier bottlings, I find the alcohol not perfectly integrated!
Review by Julien Ries
The nose is clearly marked by the cognac. Lots of dried fruits, fine spices, vanilla and especially cocoa butter. The latter wins over the traditional coconut of Foursquare, which is almost absent, in my opinion. The fruitiness is there with sweet grape, mixed with dark chocolate. The alcohol is a bit too present at the attack on the palate and that's a bit of a shame. I've known better integrated. The palate is very pastry-like, with excessive vanilla, cocoa butter, cooking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg). But what wins the most is the cognac again and again. The finish is average, with quite a bit of wood, spices, and especially a bit too much bitterness of very dark chocolate.
Review by Schnubbii
Nice bottling. The usual Foursquare notes, subtly complemented by fruity aromas from aging in a Cognac cask. I already liked the ECS Touchstone, but this one is even better and smoother. Still, for me personally, it's not quite as good as Pleni or Absolutio.
Review by Tschusikowsky
Tropical depth, clear cask influence. Nut, wood, dry with a sweet note, cappuccino and dried fruit. Well balanced on the palate, with good alcohol integration. The finish is clean and pleasant. Taste-wise, top-notch, a good release. But the cask strength bottlings don’t really excite me. They’re different, but still similar. I miss real variety and change or surprise. Super solid but somehow nothing more.

#1758 28-03-2026 - Rate 8.8 I really like this one. Better than Fidelity’s, which was overrated. Was a bit afraid of the long cougnac maturation. But it’s actually really nice. One of the better Velier Foursquare bottelings

The Foursquare Indomitas is the twelfth joint release by Richard Seale and Luca Gargano. Distilled in 2010, six years ex-bourbon, nine years ex-cognac. On the nose, you first find notes of varnish and sulfur before dried fruits, ripe peach, and the freshness of tropical fruits and coconut unfold. Rich caramel and vanilla sweetness, elegant spice of allspice and licorice, subtle roasted aromas. The palate is powerful, the alcohol is noticeable but also offers a rich spectrum of heavy caramel sweetness, cognac aromas, tropical fruits as well as dark spices, earthy notes, and mineral hints. The wood also shows bitter notes, but they don’t become too dominant. The finish is long-lasting, sweetness and bitterness in a nice balance.
Review by bavarian-rumlover
Nice, cognac in the finish, thick and oily, spicy, a bit of coconut and cookie dough. Warm, pleasant taste, wood clearly noticeable but very well integrated. Complex aromas and long finish. I really enjoyed it.
Review by Johannes
A very successful bottling! Everything a Foursquare needs. Nice tropical influences, wood, cocoa, tobacco, dried plum. Very smooth for 62%. Also, not too much column still coming through. Very good!
Review by Martin Mihaly
Very good Foursquare with bourbon-cognac flavor. Intense wet grapes and fig, complex and rounded taste, oily texture and nice long woody finish.
Review by ArminK
Wow, this surprised me. Although with a Foursquare, it was to be expected. Very well-balanced, with a slight sharpness but only briefly. Then the fruits come through with a bit of sweetness. I'm even more impressed the second time and raise it by 0.1.
Review by Martin Spooner
Nice Foursquare nose with coconut, vanilla, and dried fruits. On the palate then with a surprising warmth. Almost grape-like flavor. Nice aroma and a worthy representative of the distillery.
Review by alex
You find the usual Foursquare pattern... always the same notes of fruit, spices, with a nice length, a very appreciable alcohol level, and a very nice finish. The cognac finish is pretty good, I really like it. ❤️❤️

18/07/2026: rum tasting @ Stijn. 21/08/2026: retasting @ home. Foursquare usually delivers consistently high quality, and this one is no different. I tasted Redoutable next to it as a sparring partner, and that one is a touch sweeter/jammy, which I prefer. You can't go wrong with any of the Velier/FS collaborations.
Review by Florent Apl
A very good Foursquare. I feel like it's always hard to rate this distillery since it's biggest strength is also it's flaw, it doesn't come with much surprise. The cognac casks adds dried fruits, it rounds the rum which is already quite round, very good balance of sweetness and dryness.

Small Foursquare Tasting - April 2026 The Indomitas compared to a few other Foursquare bottlings from Velier and the RX26032 (WDC). The Indomitas has all the typical Foursquare notes and, in my opinion, a nicely done finish. But somehow today it feels too woody to me. Especially in the finish, the bitter notes are too dominant for my taste.
Review by FischeJ
For me, rather a solid cask strength. The level is generally high with cask strength, but here the alcohol is quite noticeable. More than in others, I think. Fruity nose, alongside the usual markers. Towards the finish, a more bitter, tannic finish.
Review by Joel Segerstav
Clear foursquare coconut and biscuits in nose, very good integration and a broad warm taste with just a little bite on the edges. Spices, wood, coconut with "cognac fruitiness" thrue out.
Review by Adrianv
Very good release for me! I will taste further to come back with more notes. Great bottle.

If you know one, you know them all. My tip was Foursquare and yes, right. Everything else was almost irrelevant after the reveal. Nice bottling. Feels like the caramel, nut and dried fruit notes are more intense than in the last Foursquare bottlings I tried. Reminds a bit of ECS 2008, but even more intense. But it doesn't reach Redoutable.
Review by Santo
Super integration of the alcohol, the cognac cask brings something really special. The marriage is perfect. I love it!
Review by Kryštof Skrbek
The classic flavor notes of Foursquare like coconut and vanilla are complemented by very intense barrel notes, and a cognac finish is clearly noticeable. This gives the rum an additional gentle note of wine and sweet fruits. At first, the barrel taste and cellar note were too intense for me personally. However, on re-tasting, I perceive a much better harmony. It is undoubtedly a successful bottling, but one must expect a strong influence of the cognac maturation, which is too pronounced for my personal taste.

Velier Foursquare cross - tasting by order of preference RX18937 (8.9) RX25923 (8.8) RX15940 (8.6) This one I find it a bit fruitier than usual for foursquare, wood less present Happily surprised for the first cognac foursquare I try

Finally, new Foursquare! This time, not so matured, but still very interesting. Ex-cognac cask. Nose: yeah, Cognac notes meets you. Caramel, vanilla, fresh grape, raisins, figs, dates, marmalade, winterly spices. After deep breathing, opens notes of plums and baking apples. Touch of dough. Complex & balanced. Palate: Rich, good balanced, perfect alcohol. Lot of woody notes, like cherry wood, baking apples, pecan, plums, grape. Little bit salty, spicy, vanilla. Nice maple syrup & biscuit. Quite dry. Aftertaste: long, warm. Dry, woody notes, with touch of baking apples, little bit salty, spicy, with hint of cardamon. Conclusion: like always, phenomenon Foursquare. Deep, complex, rich. Have a perfect balance. When you take a sip, you wanna did it again, more & more. Of course highly recommend to taste it.

Nose: Stewed fruit, plum skins, a bit of forest floor Nose: Dry, slightly woody, forest floor and deeper fruit but with a bit of bright apple acidity. A little drying. Great alcohol integration.
Review by Henry Davies
Nose much more subtle than Sassafras, coconut, figs, and roasted nuts. Mouth has a grappa edge, grape and cognac with some mocha and chocolate. Finish is slightly salty, with some herbal notes and spicy. Good rum, not top tier Foursquare though

Review by Sebastiaan Linssen
What a fantastic rum from Foursquare. Oak heavy and alcohol well integrated.
Review by Asian Rum Palate
Nose impression with cognac cask sweet citrus, clean and elegant, definitely Foursquare signature, orange, sweet candied lemon. Thick in texture, oily which I love, palate similar to “Cognac” with rum cask, especially the citrus side, lovely all rounded, slight banana. Finish with dissolved oak flavour. 柑桔蜜,果酸,柑橘香,甜潤,油潤,好明顯係Foursquare 出品。餘韻中長,正。 2 weeks post review: my drinking buddy who first try Rum find a heavy coconut flavour in it, and I finally realize it. Drink with friends and learn!
