Review by Stefan Persson
Got the opportunity to try this truly unique rum blend at the Rhum Fest Paris when Paul Timon offered me a sample of it, from below the desk, when he worked at the Ferrer stand. It’s the 2026 festival cuvée of the Caribbean Rhum & Food Festival held in St. Rose, Guadeloupe. The blend consists of two 4yo cask-strength Montebello’s. One is aged in ex-red wine oak barrels from Carillon. The second one is aged in ex-Pommeau oak barrels from Corvello. These two are then blended with Jamaican overproof rums from Hampden and New Yarmouth. The resulting blend comprises of 65.9% from the ex-red wine barrel, 24% from the ex-Pommeau barrel and 10.1% Jamaican unaged rum. It became a limited and numbered edition of 342 bottles. At the nose and palate it’s fresh, aromatic, intense, complex, fruity, spicy and vegetal with a touch of funkiness. The finish is long persistent.
