Grays Lazy Dodo Single Estate
Newcomers stepping up from the very sweet entry bottles are the crowd here. This Mauritius rum leans on vanilla, caramel, cocoa and dried fruit, with a clear woody backbone from the 12 years in oak. Several tasters call it a nice bridge toward drier styles, though at 40% it reads soft and, for a good few, too sweet and a touch thin.

The rum tastes good and is not too sweet. Recommended for beginners. Past well with cakes or pastries. Can be drunk very well pure.

I don't like it just because of the dilution. It tastes kind of rotten, although I actually like rum from the distillery.

Pleasant starter. Lots of dried plum and other dried fruits. Generally a very nice woody influence. Unfortunately a little too much sweetness for me. A very nice transitional rum to move from the totally sweet starters to the dry variants

Very nice, round rum. I particularly like the grapefruit note. But overall much too sweet compared to the xo!

10.09.2021 Sitting at home with some samples. Notes Medium dark to dark in colour. Nose Light, faint wood, fruits, coconut, caramel, sweet, faint chocolate. Palate Light, sweet, fruits, dried fruit, herbs, light caramel, light chocolate, faint wood, nutmeg. Finish Short, faint wood, pear, spice, raisin, faint chocolate.

Woody with coffee and caramel. Apple perhaps. On the palate, an immediate sensation of sweet dark chocolate. Not very flattering. Alcohol very present despite the reduction. I had a very negative opinion initially because it's too sweet for me, but in the end it's not so bad and can be enjoyed. Somewhere between rum and ron.

Retaste: Heavy on wood/roasted/burnt notes but less on a fruit. Otherwise I agree completely with the rest. I am not a fan of the aroma. It's not bad do not get me wrong but it's similar Guyanese rums such as pussers. Heavy on a cocoa, burnt sugar, dark chocolate, vanilla and raisins. Very specific. Taste is much better for me. Pussers taste almost the same as the nose, here it is different carrying all major tones from the nose such as cocoa, dark chocolate, brown sugar, nougat and vanilla with noticable sweetness but it adds a little bit of peppery spiciness to sprinkle it up a little. At very far distance I can notice the cola flavor but very very distantly but this is what differentiates this rum from Guyanese one. Finish is medium to long one. Very good rum minus the nosing.

Well hidden alcohol, sweet, good oily body

Ill-balanced rum. The whole is a mess. The taste lacks harmony. And, frankly, it stinks.

Chutny rum s nasládlým až sladkým profilem. Ve vůni jde cítit karamel, tropické ovoce 🍋🟩, ananas a vanilka. V chuti jsou výrazná jablka, vanilka a celkově ovocná chuť.

Nosing - Paper, oak, dried apples, burnt wood . Taste Light start front pallete berries like strawberry ,blueberry Middle tastes like acetone and peach candy Finish is short but simple .. Not an overly complex rum on the finish but brilliant on the mid pallette
Review by Operrum
The color is amber. The aroma is vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, nuts, some dried fruits. The flavor is vanilla-chocolate, dried fruits are also present, the sweetness is balanced, the aftertaste is medium-long.

MacY rom festival Nov. 2024. Just not enough good stuff. Too watered down. Not that it doesn't have good balanced notes of vanilla, plum, fruit, orange, and burnt wood, but would have been significantly better at a higher ABV.

Der Lazy Dodo Rum ist ein Rum der einen schönen ausgeglichenen Geschmack hat. Sehr gut pur Trinkbar aber auch zum Mixen ist! Verdiente 7,3 Punkte von mir.
Review by Filip Kalinovský
A very nice rum for evening sipping in front of the TV or with friends, a rum you don't have to think too much about what you are drinking and it will be tasty even for beginners.

Not really something that I found fancy. It is very south American in profile with a lot of cocoa. The nose has some complexities of tobacco and paint, but all of that is gone on the tongue. Finishes a bit bitter
