Most people land in the low-to-mid 8s and enjoy this, though a couple of seasoned funk drinkers call it just young and mid. It's a proper C<>H Hampden ester bomb: glue, nail polish and overripe banana up front, pineapple that fills the room, and marzipan on the palate. The Oloroso cask adds a light sherry sweetness and a touch of roasted wood. Give it 30+ minutes open — it turns into a fruit bomb.

#6894 06.06.2026 Having a nice tasting given by Charles from Rum Depot. This is a very nice and intense Hampden and the price tage ia also very good in my mind. Intense and fruity with nice esters, glue, polish, overripe fruits, faint leather and light roasted wood. There is a nice natural sweetness in the profile as well. I found a faint plastic note in the profile (empty glass).

About a year ago, as a relative rum newbie, this bottling would definitely have impressed me. By now, I have to say that this bottling reminds me a lot of the young Hampden bottling from CoR, which was aged in four different barrels. Definitely not bad, but just average and more meant for mixing than for drinking neat.

Tasting on 19.07.2026 Rum Club Depot tasting 6.0 Organized by Mr. Kevin Sørensen. RX 26004 Hampden C<>H 2023 Oloroso. Nose: Intense funky overripe fruit, grilled pineapple, light lime and nail polish remover dominate acetone and heavy smoke and rich marzipan. Palate: Fruity sweetness, pineapple is very dominant, overripe yellow fruits. Lime and nail polish remover, leather. Spicy, lightly spicy, heavy smoke. The finish of pineapple and bittersweet fruit makes the mouth water explode. Overwhelming natural sweetness of yellow fruits. Mineral note with light acidity and light smoke. Impressively short finish, immediately after the fruit explosion. The glass: Sour yellow fruit, light oak influence. Tasting "In the bed"

In this rum aged in Oloroso sherry casks, the high esters initially fight very successfully against the sherry cask aging and win aromatically. On the palate, however, the cask strongly pushes back and takes the lead before the esters strike back. A successful bottling of this young rum.

Tasting at "Basecamp" on 31.07.2026 Samples from Rum Depot. 👌 Nose on an adventure👃: I sense classic funk. There's lime, esters, tropical fruits, and the sherry cask shines through nicely! Smells fantastic! Tongue on an adventure 🥃: I taste a super rum that speaks directly to me! Lots of funk! There are tropical fruits, lime, esters, pineapple, and pineapple. The sherry cask comes through so nicely in this rum without overpowering anything! The tail of the story💫: long and warm finish! Yum!

A fascinating symbiosis of two extremes. The extremely high ester content of the traditional Hampden Distillery meets the deep fruit and sweetness power of a freshly emptied Oloroso cask. Despite the brutal cask strength, this single cask shows itself surprisingly harmonious and complex – a highlight for lovers of heavy Jamaican rums.

A superb bottling from Dirk. A high-ester Hampden rum matured in an ex-Oloroso cask, offering outstanding value for money. Nose: Funky and intensely estery, with notes of glue and varnish, followed by a mix of tropical fruits and sour cherries. Palate: Very much in line with the nose, with the classic Hampden marzipan note adding another layer of complexity. I also noticed a slightly furry, almost tingling sensation on the tongue, likely caused by the high ester content. Be careful, this is a powerhouse of a rum and best enjoyed in small sips. Finish: Long, fruity, and pleasantly lingering.

Light golden brown color from the sherry cask aging. Strong ester notes, and you can already smell the cask influence on the nose. This continues on the palate and the combination of ester notes with distinct oloroso notes works well. A bit unruly just after pouring but gets better with time. A few minutes in the glass are definitely recommended and make the whole thing rounder.

The nose has a lot of esters, nail polish, and also glue. Along with that come tropical fruits like pineapple, for example. On the palate, the journey continues mainly with tropical fruits. The finish is quite long. The alcohol is well integrated. I really like this rum.

A young and wild Hampden C<>H, which was tamed relatively successfully by the sweet Oloroso cask. Ester purists might be bothered by the noticeable sherry influence, but I quite like this symbiosis of "funky", overripe fruit esters and the dried date-raisin mix. Even though I usually prefer my rum a bit more settled, I really enjoy this bottling!

Nice Hampden with lots of funk

It is well known what influence contact with air can have on a distillate. However, here two worlds emerge – especially in terms of taste. If the bottle is freshly opened and the sample has been in the glass for no more than half an hour, you smell a lot of funk, nail polish (remover), glue, gasoline, and some fruit. Robyn Smith from "This Blog’s NEAT" would roughly say: We are definitely in the nail salon and somewhere nearby someone is grilling bananas and pineapples. Freshly opened, you taste funk, funk, and above all funk on the palate – but hardly any fruit notes. I would have rated it at most 7.2. If the bottle has been open for a while and the sample has been in the glass for well over two hours, this rum becomes a revelation. Suddenly it turns into a tropical fruit bomb on the tongue. The funk is then wonderfully integrated and supportive – without any off-notes. The finish is impressive. I currently don’t know of any rum this good at this price.

#1792 06-06-2026 - Rate 7.4 Rumclub Private Selection tasting Sønderborg Last rum in the line up. Hampden with a good mark. One of the best marks. But young and high ester. I used to like this kind of rum a lot, but the last year I have not enjoyed it as I used to. Still good rum.

A little comparison of the sherry cask ester rums from the Rum Club. The Hampden is bursting with esters. At first, solvent and alcohol bite hard. Over time, it becomes fruitier and more fermented. Especially in the finish, esters linger for a long time.

Nice drinkable Hampden from the Oloroso cask. Color nice, nose tasty ester fruity with slightly dark notes. On the palate again pleasantly fruity bitter, slightly woody. Well done!

Very funky high-ester rum. Intense smell of pineapple that fills the whole room. Initially the typical strong acetone notes of a C<>H Marks, including slight numbness of the tongue tip if you taste too early. Later comes an absolutely intense 'sour flash'. The longer you wait, the stronger the fruit aroma. Little noticeable from the sherry cask, only after about 30 minutes comes a slight bitterness and a hint of coffee. When diluted with a few drops of water, more esters are 'driven out' so that for a short time a stronger acetone smell is noticeable, at the same time the coffee aroma turns into a slight chocolate aroma. Even heavily diluted still fruity with pineapple notes. Extremely long finish, partly still noticeable the next morning. Not a rum for beginners, not a pleasant rum but definitely very interesting.

Jamaica Hampden from the Sherry Oloroso cask by Dirk Becker on the start. I smell banana and ester and funk and pineapple and sherry. That continues on the palate and 63.5% is not unpleasant and well integrated. Can be drunk well, I like it a lot.

For me the ester notes are overloaded, but you are rewarded with a long warm finish. Overripe fruits with a slight sweetness, but the alcohol could be better integrated. The finish saves it from a lower rating. If you like ester monsters, this is definitely the right one.
