The Whisky Jury New Yarmouth The Many Face Of Rum 2009
People already into Jamaican pot-still funk are the right crowd here. Expect glue and ester up front, ripe banana and mango, a whiff of furniture wax, plus cookie dough and marzipan. Oily on the tongue, faintly sweet from caramel, with a very long finish. Give it half an hour to breathe — the alcohol shows early and settles nicely. One taster even caught a brief eucalyptus flash.

How does The Whisky Jury New Yarmouth The Many Face Of Rum 2009 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Glue-and-banana Jamaican, oily and long A classic New Yarmouth 2009 with all the markers — ester, glue, tropical fruit, marzipan. Most enjoyed it; the common gripe is noticeable heat and that it isn't the most complex example.

#6637 10.04.2026 Some late evening samples that are not Dictador. Full power on Spotify with Armin van Buuren and Nishra. This is a pretty good release with a decent price tag to go with it. The nose is intense and fruity with banana, overripe fruits, light mint, glue, ester and light olive. The palate is warm and oily with light wood, mint, citrus, olive, salt, ester and spice. The finish is extremely long and warm with light roasted wood, ester, overripe fruits, mango and light mint.

Unfortunately a little uncomplex New Yarmouth: the sour fruity notes recede, woody notes dominate the flavor profile. Clearly astringent. Especially the younger CDI releases are noticeably better. All in all, solid but nothing more.
Review by Skyfly
Classic 2009 New Yarmouth that brings all the typical markers. However, it can't fully convince or compete at the top because you can taste the alcohol from nose to finish.

8,6:On the nose, medicinal with esters and glue, rubber, funky, intense, fermented tropical fruits like banana, citrus fruits, hints, oak with cookie dough, vanilla, almonds, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, yellow fruits arise, molasses is vegetal, briny, herbaceous, grassy with hay, toasted wood is oily, smoky, rum is nicely balanced. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with esters and glue, fruity with fermented tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, yellow and citrus fruits, slightly acidic, some fruits candied, bourbon barrel impact is obvious, the oak is toasted with caramel, cookie dough, leather, nuts, oily, spicy with allspice, peppery, warm, slightly resinous, as molasses is vegetal with briny olive, fresh, grassy, sweet with honey. 8,5:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, slightly metallic, medicinal, oak is toasted with notes like confectionery, spicy with allspice, ginger, warm, smoky, fruity with fermented tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, mango, citrus, yellow fruits, dairy notes join, creamy.

Nose: very fruity (pineapple and mango), esters and glue, no alcoholic sting Palate: wow, what is that!? Tastes like a sauna infusion smells! Eucalyptus!? But only very briefly at the start, I was able to repeat the effect several times, after a while it shifts more towards 'fresh gingerbread', then lots of fruity sweetness, and in between I briefly got soy sauce/sushi. Finish: long, esters, sweetness, Great New Yarmouth with wild notes on the palate, not a complexity monster but very well integrated alcohol, a recommendation for the price.

Ja das ist definitiv ein lecker Tröpfchen:) Sogar als New Yarmouth erkennbar würd ich mal sagen. Ist leicht süßlich dank des Karamell, aber hier überwiegen trotzdem die tropischen Früchte und der Ester

Solid and tasty, that's how I'd put it, short and sweet. Typical New Yarmouth 2009... fruity, marzipan, and plenty of funk, no surprises, nothing new but tasty. In the Mai Tai, it delivers well with nice sweetness, lots of marzipan and fruit.

Today, a classic for comparison, the Rum Artesanal New Yarmouth first Edition from 2009 (very, very tasty) against the new The Whisky Jury. After the TWJ in the bulbous bottle didn't really convince me, the differences here with the new bottling in the elongated bottle are negligible.
Review by Banana Joe
A nice New Yarmouth from 2009, but it can't quite compete with the top shelf. It has too many rough edges for my taste, and the alcohol could have been a bit better integrated. But all in all, a nice rum.
Review by DomM
Intense on the nose with cookies and some (rotting) fruits. Very nice and intense New Yarmouth profile on the palate. Strong on cookie notes with some tropical fruits and vanilla. Smooth sweetness and silky mouthfeel.

A strong base, but not overly ester-heavy, although these esters remain quite present in the background. Also nice is the hint of floor wax, especially in the nose. Good balance between lots of fruit, wood, and esters. If you let it sit for a bit, the cane sugar comes more to the forefront. Honey and roasted aromas are there too.

Exciting! Tastes like it was aged in the tropics for a long time. But because of that, it has clearly lost a lot of esters. More on the woody side and low ester.

NY is the less typical amomgst the Jamaica distilleries, in my opinion. That's because their recent rums are heavy on the chemical notes and quite shy on the tropical fruits. Not that this is bad at all, just willing to share my view. This 2009 follows the same Path, esters and glue dominate the nose, while only with time some tropical fruits and some pastry notes comes up, along with a butter-y feeling The palate is pretty much aligned, just some aged cheese notes that are adding up. A nice rum, just missing something to be really interesting

#1732 27-02-2026 - Rate 8.4 The Whisky Jury New Yarmouth 2005, is a better rum to me. All the graft CDI New Yarmouth’s are also from 2005. I like that year better then 2009. There are more power in the 2005. More untamed and wild. The 2009 is a bit more subtle and smooth.

Smells like uhu and fresh. Older pineapple. Oily texture on the tongue. Not an ester bomb. But definitely Jamaica. Mild, medium-long finish. Cocoa aftertaste. Glad I have two, but won’t buy more. Definitely in the upper category, but no “enlightenment.” Improves with breathing. Gains a cozy warmth and body after holding/warming it in the hand. Not sharp despite 57%.
Review by FischeJ
As expected. Intense, lots of esters, cookie dough, marzipan, a bit of rubber. Alcohol quite clearly noticeable. Sweeter on the palate. Should have tested this in a Mai Tai. Solid bottling.

Fruity, I enjoyed it. Solid base, but not extreme in esters, although those esters remain present in the background. Also nice is the hint of beeswax, especially in the aroma. Good balance between lots of fruit, wood and esters. If you let it stand for a while, the sugarcane comes more to the foreground. Tasty!

Nose: medium intense. Lot of glue. Medium esters, some tropical fruits, like pineapple. Some yellow fruits, like apple, pear, apricot. Little bit of leather & young wood. Lot of citrus: Lemons, orange. Some vanilla & coconut. And, something like fermented banana. Palate: Rich, sour. High acidity. Lot tropical fruits. Pineapple, mango banana, some citrus & spices. Of course, little bit of esters & glue. Young wood & leather. Nice ginger & lemon profile. Very tasty. Aftertaste: long, warm, ester. Gentle ginger, lemons & tropical fruits with paint.

TWJ The Many Faces of Rum NY 2009 on a Sunday afternoon during the second division conference on the last matchday! Not the easiest rum for football. I smell esters and glue but also fruit. And alcohol. I also taste it very dominantly in the mouth and throat. Ultimately an okay rum, but it won't be one of my favorites.
Review by Jacques etdom
Classic nose of the NY 2009. Fruit, glue, esters, and marzipan. The palate is oily and almost sweet. The alcohol is very well integrated. The same elements present on the nose. Roasted nuts appear at the end of the palate and linger during the extremely long finish. Very nice choice of cask!

Solvent but also fruity and a saline hint!
