Experienced funk hunters are the only crowd this cask-strength Mexican high-ester is really built for. Pineapple, glue and rubber lead the nose, with a fruit-brandy character several members compare to apple or pear schnapps rather than rum. At 71.7% it hits hard but "brennt nicht" — surprisingly well integrated. Cleanly distilled, so it lacks the dirty Jamaican edge some hoped for.

A real funk bomb: pineapple, glue, and esters dominate, accompanied by a slight herbal note. The fruit notes remind me of Calvados or fruit brandy. At just under 72%, it's extremely strong, surprisingly well-integrated alcohol, and no annoying burning. Still a bit raw and edgy, but that's exactly what makes it exciting. But definitely not a rum for the inexperienced.

Uhh ... I first tried it neat and then diluted with water. It's definitely a strong spirit, but somehow mild on the finish. Flavor-wise in its current state, it's a no-go. I lack the imagination or experience to see what this rum could become. I'll try some "rum mixing" and add a sweet sherry note here and there. If none of that helps, I'll have to think of something else.

The first High Ester rum from Nicolas' experimental lab. 71.7% alcohol with citrus and pineapple notes. This rum is quite cleanly distilled. I miss the rough Jamaica style notes. Still a well-done experiment.

Solid high ester rum from the house of Wagemut. I'm missing a bit of those crazy Jamaica vibes. The alcohol is well integrated and I don't get any off-notes. Neat, it's a bit one-dimensional over time, but in a Daiquiri, it's super tasty 😋

Alcohol surprisingly well integrated. Blind, I wouldn't have recognized it as rum. Tastes to me like a good mild pear or apple brandy.

You can definitely notice the 71.7% ABV clearly in the mouth. Still very tasty with lots of funky notes of banana and glue in the nose and on the palate. Absolutely not for beginners or intermediates; this is more for experienced rum lovers. I would definitely recommend it.

Strong but special ester nose with fruit brandy and overripe fruits, pineapple, slightly medicinal. On the palate first fruit brandy, then fruits, very well integrated esters, but rather flat in taste. With water more esters in the nose, on the palate less pineapple and more fruit brandy. Fruit brandy lovers will like this.

Super intense beast that knocks you off your feet with the first sip. Ultra much flavor in a small amount. Great base for what may come next. Curious how it will taste aged in a few years.

Man, oh man, this thing is a beast 🤣 This rum is definitely not for beginners!!! What good Nico and that glass pack is a fruit ester bomb like no other! You have to move it around in your mouth in the smallest sips for a long time – fruit explosion 🎇🎇🎇 AWESOME ❤️

That was the first time I dealt with esters. I imagined something really crazy because it was described as not for beginners and only for pros. But I actually found it pretty nice. So I was a bit disappointed. Even my mom, who has nothing to do with spirits and thinks regular rum is crap, liked it.
