Tasted this remarkable fusion at the Sweden Rum Fest 2026. It’s a release from the Swedish independent bottler Cane Bottling Co. It’s an 8yo Foursquare tropical aged in ex-bourbon casks whereafter it was transported to Europe for 3 years additional continental aging in former Caroni casks before bottled in just 136 bottles. I’m not sure if we get the best of two worlds, but it’s fascinating and a very well tasting rum. The nose is elegant, balanced, woody, fruity, spicy and a little sweet with scents of oak, lemon, coconut, vanilla, caramel and chocolate. At the palate it’s heavy, dirty, intense, woody, fruity and sweet with flavors of tar, rubber, tropical fruits, coconut, caramel, chocolate and cocoa. The finish is rather long.

Nase: ganz interessant, Foursquare ist erkennbar allerdings mit viel Columnstill Charakter und alkoholisch stechend Gaumen: sehr alkoholisch und scharfkantig, dreckige Caroninoten sind da, harmonieren aber irgendwie wegen der alkoholischen Schärfe nicht gut mit dem Foursquareprofiel Nachklang: mittellang und unausgewogen, Assoziationen zu Wodka Die Idee einen Foursquare in einem Caronifass zu reifen finde ich klasse. Leider ist der Rum mir deutlich zu alkoholisch und unharmonisch. Da war der Ausgangsstoff wohl nicht der beste und kommt deshalb nur noch in den Bereich 'mittelmäßig'

Blind tasted... on Foursquare I wouldn't have guessed it - especially on the palate. It seems a bit sharp and unbalanced to me. Nose chocolaty. Good rum, but when I heard Foursquare I was a bit underwhelmed.

Also für mich ist hier nicht wirklich ein Caroni Finish erkennbar, statt dessen aber nur die typischen Foursquare Marker. Viel Kokosnuss, eine leichte Süße dank Vanille und Karamell, sowie etwas Holz haben wir hier.

Edit: muss zugeben, das er beim nochmaligen verkosten nicht ganz überzeugt hat. Ist nicht alles so rund und blind wäre ich nicht auf Foursquare gekommen. Aber tolles Experiment, werde aber nicht nachlegen. Kleiner vorab Eindruck von mir. Ich finde den schon echt super. Ein bißchen Foursquare und das Caronifass hat gute Arbeit geleistet. Wobei ich auch ein paar leichte Minz TDL Noten geschmeckt habe. Guter Switch und m.E. gelungene Kombi. Über die Punkte mache ich mir demnächst in Ruhe Gedanken.

Franconian Tasting Gang meets at Rumurmel, April 2026 (Thanks for the entry into the rum treasure chamber. What a cool location!) To warm up a small experiment, Foursquare from the Caroni cask. The result is quite interesting, but I wouldn't need a bottle of it. The alcohol is quite dominant on the palate, the finish a bit too short.

Still quite intense on the nose right after pouring, but noticeably weaker after 30 minutes of breathing. On the palate, you can recognize the typical FSQ markers and the Caroni influence showing through tar, rubber, and a very slight mint. Alcohol well integrated.

Light nose, comprising of mostly wood with a hint of fruit, roasted nuts and caramel, might be tobacco and leather waaaaay back. Taste is Foursquare through and through, very subtle sweetness with more wood, hints of spices and burnt sugar. Mouthfeel is quite dry and leaves no stickiness Aftertaste is short, it does not stick around.

Hat mich angenehm überrascht. Sehr rundes Profil. Die 60% sind hervorragend eingebunden und unterstützen den Geschmack. Hat für mich in der zweiten Verkostung nochmal zugelegt. Somit erhöhe ich um 0,1 auf 8,6.

I was disappointed. The alcohol integration isn’t the best, the flavors don’t really come together, it feels thin, and it has quite a short finish. Unfortunately, one of the weaker Foursquares I’ve tried.

On the nose, the barrel dominates. In the taste, it is classic Foursquare. The sweetness is perfect for me. There is both acidity and bitterness which I find pleasant. This also makes it feel dry. Deep down in the palate, I find something that reminds me of fresh green grass. The aftertaste is medium, except for the barrel taste itself which is long.
