Foursquare fans who want the tropical 21-year version with a twist will find a lot to chew on here. The Pineau des Charentes cask layers ripe grapes, sultanas and medjool dates over the usual oak, caramel and coconut. The alcohol is beautifully tucked in at 55%, and it rewards a long rest in the glass — one taster found it shallow at first, then watched it open up. A couple feel the Pineau pushes a bit too hard.

21 years of tropical aging, you can tell right away from the nose. Great complexity, the Pineau finish brings a nice, sweet fruitiness that suits the Foursquare well. Beautiful balance between fruitiness, sweetness, and wood. It convinces me. Doesn't quite reach the top, but is very close behind.

Nose and palate quite pleasant until the woody notes mixed with sauternes take over and crush everything, leaving only bitterness in the mouth and on the finish... Big disappointment. At the bottom of the ranking for this series. Definitely not a must-have...

Tasting date 03.10.2026 RX26127 Supernum 2004. Nose: Dark stone fruits and wood, spises, vanilla and smoke. Some sour fruits and nuts. Mouth: Classic Foursquare behind the dominating Pineau cask. Dark stone fruits and toasted notes. Dried fruits with balanced spices, pleasant fruity bitterness. Residual taste: Warm spices mostly peppery notes. Dried dats and raisins. Balanced sweetness with dominating wood, some light coffee notes. Long and spiced residual taste. The glass: Sour tobacco and oak. Tasting “In the cave”

Great barrel aromas of vanilla, oak wood, caramel, plus the typical coconut and allspice notes. On the palate, the Pineau barrel aging shows with distinct fruit notes of both dried fruit and ripe grapes. The aging is reflected in toasty wood notes, subtle coffee, and allspice again in the profile. The Pineau finish adds a unique note in the finish, which works well, even though I find other releases a bit rounder. Still, the result remains very good.

As a fan of Absolutio, I already thought this one would taste good to me as well. In comparison, the Supernum is a bit more "loose" and pleasing, more easy sipping. The Pineau des Charentes finish really integrates seamlessly into the Foursquare profile. White wine-like aromas such as yellow fruits, apricot, honey, and yellow as well as green grapes and gooseberries meet coconut macaroons, vanilla kipferl, caramelized banana, and light barrel notes. The slight acidity probably comes from the PdC finish – but for me, it adds that certain something to the profile. I’m really very positively surprised – for about €180, I’d probably buy a bottle. Compared to Absolutio or Destino, this one isn’t a complexity monster but is a really nice, not too blunt easy sipper without becoming boring. Great release!

Mature Foursquare with depth. On the nose, wood, vanilla, dark fruits, and a bit of spice, plus a nice, slightly dry note. On the palate, soft and complex with oak, caramel, spices, and some dried fruit. The long aging fits well without overpowering it.

Tasted the Supernum today along with a few other bottlings from Foursquare. The long aging really shows, but without an exaggerated wood influence. Pleasantly sweet, with dark fruits. Alcohol very well integrated.

I really like the Foursquare Supernum 2004. Nice balance of cask influence and fruity components. The alcohol is very well integrated. The 55% still provide enough strength to nicely bring out the aromas.

Once again a very good Foursquare! On the one hand, it is very smooth thanks to the finish, the alcohol is well integrated, round, and the usually present flat column still finish is noticeably softened. On the other hand, it is not so complex, the tropical notes are not very present, overall a bit flat, with a slightly sour finish.

4/10/26 Long weekend holiday calls for a rum tasting. Lucky to have got a few bottles of these brought into Australia. Nose: ripe red fruits, sultanas, medjool dates, very sweet caramel, some nuts, faint pepperiness, faint glue, chocolate. Palate: sultanas, ripe grapes, oak, caramel and coconut, nuts, red fruits/berries, pleasant pepperiness/spice. No burn, initially there’s a nice pleasant dry note, (but it changes to a very sweet one with the glass resting). The Pineau des Charentes cask is noticeable, especially after resting, it brings a rounded sweet/dry fruitiness that compliments the typical Foursquare notes well. In saying that, the Pineau cask is perhaps a tad bit too overwhelming and dominant. Finish: dry, yet fruity, predominantly oaky and sweet, ripe grapes with vanilla. Pineau cask is at the forefront. Initially I felt like it was too shallow, but leaving it in the glass to rest, it develops much more complexity and notes harmonise with each other well enough. An easy sipper, mostly well rounded with fantastic alcohol integration. Glad I bought 2 bottles.
