Keeling & Son Diamond Old Demerara Rum (Lic. N°3)
People who got to try this old Diamond Demerara mostly came away happy, with a small but real gripe: gorgeous classic profile, but a couple felt it lacks the last bit of depth. Expect dark chocolate, dried fruit, licorice and faint coffee, with wood and a touch of roasted smoke. At 45% it stays surprisingly full-bodied for its strength.
- Classic Demerara profile
- Full body at 45%
- Dried fruit, licorice

How does Keeling & Son Diamond Old Demerara Rum (Lic. N°3) taste?
Aggregated from 16 community reviews.
Classic old Demerara, dark and dried-fruit driven Loved by most as a textbook old Demerara — wood, caramel, coffee, dried fruit. A few wished for more complexity, but several were struck by the body it keeps at just 45%.

When you are already an old man and are allowed to taste a rum that is even older ... Just opening the tarnished screw cap (!) was an adventure (and a feat of strength). A lovely grape scent hits you after opening, and this impression continues on the palate, albeit not quite as strong due to the ABV of only 45%, which was common at the time. But the alcohol is very well integrated and allows the rum to develop its full fruity aroma even after more than 60 years. This rum is like an essence. A dream from another world.

I am grateful for this sample of a 70s rum. Licorice and some cocoa on the nose, typical of the old Demeraras. In the mouth it has a nice balance and a lot of depth despite only 45%. I don't have anything to compare it to, but we are at a high level here. The flavors linger longer in the mouth. There is also no unpleasant wateriness as with other rums at a drinking strength of 45%. Great old Demerara

31.01.2020 Relaxing at a small tasting at a local dining place that is no more. Notes. Very dark in colour. Nose: Light yet complex, wood, caramel, dried fruit, orange, faint coffee. Palate: Complex, wood, roasted/light smoke, anise, dried fruit, light leather. Finish: Medium long, round, orange, wood, roasted, licorice.

Beautiful Demerara rum with a classic profile, but lacking the final kick.

Many thanks to zucker & zeste for the opportunity! A very exciting vintage rum with a surprising amount of body and complexity despite only 45%. I like it very much! Of course it could do with a few % more, but at the time it was bottled, 45% was already outside the norm... Really a nice drop!

Beautiful, old Demerara style with lots of molasses, wood, coffee and caramel. Unfortunately, it lacks a little depth and complexity.
