Vanilla, caramel and a whiff of molasses on the nose — pleasant enough, and then the palate thins out. At 40% it drinks light, a little sweet, with faint oak and pepper before a short, slightly bitey finish. Most members find the aroma the best part and the body underwhelming. It's the entry rung of the Centenario range, and it tastes like it.

Private tasting of 5 different Centenario's (9, 12, 20, 25 and 30). The 9-year-old is very pleasant on the nose with notes of vanilla, caramel, pastry, and butter. Unfortunately, the palate is much more one-dimensional. Sweet with light vanilla notes. Otherwise very thin and watered down. The finish is also very short. By far the weakest Centenario of the evening.

Very thin, flat and alcoholic. Consistently caramel both on the nose and on the palate. Very slight pepper. The finish is short and biting. As a conclusion, I would say that it is too thin and alcoholic, and I would have no use for this rum.

Small sample tasting. The 9-year-old Centenario doesn’t really blow me away. On the nose, there’s a dominant alcoholic sharpness, followed by classic caramel and vanilla notes – that’s about it 🤷🏻♂️ On the palate, the same alcoholic sharpness comes first, then a bit of caramel, dried fruits, and a subtle bitterness. The mouthfeel is rather thin. If you let the rum breathe a bit, a nice vanilla note joins in. The finish is actually quite long but stays not very complex – caramel, alcoholic sharpness, bitter. My conclusion: Not a total failure and totally okay for the price. But don’t expect a big revelation.
