Oily, thick and dark in the glass, this pours out leather, tobacco, malt syrup and salted caramel with cherry flickering underneath. At cask strength and 31 years it's heavy and concentrated — one member calls the nose "modrig und pilzig" (musty, mushroomy), which some love and one or two find off-putting. Undiluted suits it. A classic cigar companion for patient sippers.

On the nose, chocolaty-malty-sweet, with blackcurrants, also somehow a bit buttery-rancid. Similar on the palate. As a companion to a cigar, it doesn't really appeal to me right now. To be fair, I have to say that it's struggling a bit with the current temperatures of over 30 degrees.

As with many Cubans, I am also torn with this one. Distinct sweetness reminiscent of a sherry finish. Thus relatively easy drinking, but still a nice body with tobacco, wood, leather. Certainly perfect with a cigar.

8,9:On the nose, roasted wood notes like caramel, burnt sugar, nuts, leather, spicy with vanilla, baking spices, slightly metallic, dried apricots, raisins, orange peel, syrupy, balanced, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, it becomes slightly medicinal, sulphurous, banana, cherry, plum arise, molasses is earthy with tobacco, root, crème brûlée, toffee come out. 9:On the palate, the attack is sweet with roasted wood notes like caramel(salted), burnt sugar, cream toffee, leather, some pastry, when well rested, coffee, cocoa, dry, tannic, later resinous, spicy with vanilla, baking spices, slightly metallic, smoky, malty, barrel impact is obvious, fruity with dried apricots and raisins, mirabelle plum, later banana, mango, fermented, buttery, citrus fruits, the molasses is earthy with cigar tobacco, root, slightly floral, dark with licorice.When the rum is really oxidized, sweet toasted American oak hints are present.Great, complex Cuban! 8,6:The finish is long, dry&tannic with roasted wood notes like coffee, nuts, caramel is salty, smoky, malty, spicy with baking spices, vanilla, molasses is slightly vegetal, dark with licorice, earthy with cigar tobacco, the fruits are dried, red with cherry.

Unusually exciting Cuban from my 1992 vintage! On the nose, extremely dense and concentrated with cherries, vanilla, a bit of leather and tobacco, as well as crème brûlée, some coffee, and yeast dough. On the palate, less fruity than expected, although the cherry is still subtly noticeable in the background. Instead, an incredibly creamy mouthfeel that reminds me of salty cream butter caramel. Then again, strong nutty-fruity mocha, light bitter notes, salty burnt marshmallows, as well as cherry brandy and malt syrup. Overall, I really like it a lot and didn’t expect it! :)

Highly interesting! What a unique profile! I didn’t realize a rum from Cuba could taste so different, but of course, a lot can happen in 32 years of aging. The nose is pleasantly musty and mushroomy. I get caramel, wood, leather, mushrooms, nuts, and malt. Then a fruity note briefly shines through with cherries and berries, which then transitions into baking spices, yeast, earth, and roots. On the palate, there’s a nice sweetness right at the start. Dark notes of leather, wood, beer flakes, malt, cask influence, and tobacco lead back to this refined mushroom note (specifically the upper scales on the cap of the parasol mushroom). Nuts, caramel, and creamy toffee are accompanied by roots and floral aromas. The medium-length finish doesn’t have much body and lives off cask notes, leather, malt, brown caramel, wood, nuts, and earthy aromas. I’m very surprised and impressed by the profile of this Cuban, long-aged rum. Definitely worth the experience! Thanks to @Skyfly for the great sample 😃

Beautiful reddish color. Balanced, strong nose. Basically very good, a hint of mustiness spoils the pleasure. Very spicy on the palate, plenty of caramel and oily. Nice cocoa notes. Super! A really nice finish. Very good 🇨🇺 sipper, a positive surprise at the end. Surely pairs well with a cigar. To that, Arsenio Rodriguez’s early recordings from Havana and NY.

Thanks to Skyfly for the sample. I'm shocked by the nose, not at all what I expected. There's caramel at first, and then something unusual, a fermented yeasty note that is pungent. The flavor persist in the palate, it has a sweet popcorn flavor with vanilla, on the rather artificial side. It's definitely an odd ball, very unusual and unique, I wouldn't have guessed the origine. I'll give extra point for originality and weirdness.

Nice '92 Cuban with lots of power. Alcohol well integrated, very heavy and oily thick in the glass. Brings everything you expect from a Cuban, just without dilution and therefore noticeably stronger. Nice bottling!

06-06-2026 - Rate 8.6 Cuba is always a gamble if you asked me. Have tastet 50/50 good and bad Cuban rums. When they break they are terrible but when they get it right it can be quite good. This one is one of the better once.

I haven't had much Cuban rum so far. You can clearly smell the barrel notes, and I find it smells a bit musty too. On the tongue, it's nicely warming, with the alcohol quite pronounced especially at the start. Some tannins and plenty of wood notes. Oily texture with a medium-long start. I didn't find it particularly special but not bad either. Good to drink but a bit boring in my opinion.
