Foursquare ECS XXX Penultimus 2010
Here's the surprise: this ECS doesn't drink as sharp as the line usually does. The Moscatel finish pushes it toward honey, syrup and chocolate, layered over the usual Foursquare oak, caramel and spice. A few tasters loved the sweeter turn; others felt the cask got a touch too loud, muting the coconut and drying into slight bitterness on the finish. Solid, a little divisive.
The community says- Chocolate and caramel
- Honeyed Moscatel finish
- But: Slight bitter finish

Sweeter Foursquare with Moscatel chocolate and oak Most find it a quality, sweeter Foursquare with chocolate, honey and oak. The catch: some say the Moscatel cask runs strong and the finish turns bitter or short.

#6954 23.06.2026 Picked up the wife from work and my walk today was fast and very hot. Time for some samples and some Trance on Spotify. Good rum with a nice price tag in my mind. Nicely balanced and fruity with chocolate, spices, herbs, light tobacco and roasted wood with some tannins.

So this is supposed to be the second to last one from Richard? Personally, I expected a bit more. As always with Foursquare, high quality, but unfortunately it can't really keep up with the latest bottlings. Nice to have tried it, but I wouldn't need another bottle.

An ordinary mid-range FSQ where the cask influence was probably a bit too intense, so both coconut and intense dried fruits take a bit of a backseat. On the other hand, the alcohol is perfectly integrated.

What a delicious rum. Not as sharp as you are used to from the ECS line. Delicious chocolate, vanilla, caramel, honey, wood with the typical Foursquare spices. This is a true connoisseur with the quality you can expect from FS. Thanks to this rum, I now also know that I love the Moscatel finish.

Tasting d. 23.07.2026 with Mr. Daniel Jungberg. RX26184 FS Penultimus 2010 Nose: Fruity and sweetness, coconut and glue, sulfur, tannins. Spiced dominated Muscatel cask. Bitter grapes. Palate: Fruity sweetness, burnt orange peel, dried fruit like apricot, dates and raisins. Overripe plums and mirabelle. Bittersweet, toasted cask and light smoke. Residual tast is dominated from dried fruits like dates and raisins light plums, vanilla. Spiced dominated Muscatel cask, toasted cask, light smoke. Dark bitter chocolate. Bitter dry finish, light pibe tobacco. Glass: Sulfur and tannins, toasted oak cask. Tasting “In the living room”

A Foursquare rum you won't find like this in the ECS range. The Moscatel finish gives this a clear note of syrup, candy, and honey. What starts on the nose continues on the palate: sweet, syrupy, chocolaty, spicy, complemented by wood and roasted aromas. Not a showstopper, but solid mid-range. Something a bit different!

Für einen FS relativ komplex, allerdings eher auf der leicht bitteren Seite. Vor allen im Abgang leichte Bitternoten, nicht so fruchtig, eher holzig. Gefällt mir sehr gut!
Review by Schnubbii
Pleasant Foursquare with the usual quality, no surprises. I find something like a slight sulfur note, so for me not really a highlight.
Review by Banana Joe
Usual Foursquare quality, but for me a touch too bitter on the palate and finish. Sample is OK, I don't need a bottle here.
Review by Pavel Spacek
Amazing nose, but too old – the coconut has disappeared and the cask influence is too strong in the rum – it starts to taste sour because of the cask flavor.
Review by ThatCubanRumGuy
Sitting in my home office on a Friday evening trying to finish some work before the weekend commences. Popped this one open to try it out. Definitely getting some dark chocolate and some citrus on the palate, not sure if I’m getting oranges but that seems to be a flavor working it’s self in. Will update some more later. Update: Nose Orange peel and dark chocolate. There is some oak but I think the citrus over powers it. Palate Usual caramel, vanilla and oak notes. There’s some banana I think, and a bitter chocolate, with hints sweetness from the Zinfandel cask all of which balance it out. Finish Warm and gradual long finish with orange peel and nutmeg.

A bit of a woody rum. Nice, but you do have to get used to it a bit. I find the finish a bit short.

adding something without taking over. It feels like one of those bottles that’ll just quietly grow on you the more time you spend with it. I will be ordering a bottle (or two) in due course without doubt!
