Engenhos do Norte 970 Single Cask Edition 2007
"Almost like an old sherry cask," one taster said, and that captures this Madeira agricole well: French oak soaked in Madeira wine dominates, with dried plum, cassis, blackberry and cherries pulled dry. Tobacco, cinnamon, dark chocolate, sandalwood and a whiff of menthol round it out. At 55% it's thick, woody and very dry — a couple of members wished for a bit more fruit.

A very thick and woody 970 rum. French oak soaked with madeira wine. It's very prominent. I do get a hint of it's agricole base. Lots of winterly spices. Whiff of menthol. Cherries and black currants (dryish). Pretty good. Retry: almost like an old sherry cask. Dried raisins. Currants. Still very very good.

Extremely dry, musty and woody, fruity Madeira single cask. Tobacco, cassis, prune, grape & blackberry, lots of wood, cinnamon, subtle tobacco and mint, sandalwood and generally extremely woody notes, dark chocolate, as well as leather and some menthol. You have to like it!
