The Rivesaltes cask is the twist here — this fortified-wine barrel piles overripe grape, plum and apricot on top of a TDL Trinidad rum, and more than one taster had to double-check it wasn't a Foursquare. Dried yellow fruit, cocoa and a thread of mint tea run through it, with a long licorice-and-sherry finish. Cask strength at 57.2%, but the alcohol sits well.

Nice, easy-drinking, almost too sweet Foursquare with great cherry note. What, that's a TDL!? 😳 Well, you only notice that right at the end. And only a little bit. Where's the typical mint?

Solid bottling! A rounded and complex TDL, but it doesn't quite grab me. On the nose, lots of chocolate, which carries through the palate and finish and is a bit too dominant for me. Along with that, some wood, spice, and an absolutely minimal hint of mint. Otherwise nicely balanced, and the alcohol fits harmoniously into the overall picture.

A flavor profile I've never had in 1000 tastings. The combination of TDL and ex-Rivesaltes cask is very exciting and delivers a complex fruit aroma profile. Unfortunately, I get the impression that the cask influence is too intense, as other aromas are only faintly expressed. Still, a good rum.

Yeah, this is a bit of a different, somewhat unusual T.D.L. You can still recognize mint here, but it's not as prominent as usual. Instead, this rum is more fruity, with grape and plum noticeable. Still good :)

#7233 29.08.2026 Tasted at the German Rum Festival 2026. A very good TDL with an attractive price tag in my mind. Quick notes while tasting. Fruity, mint, woody, spice, tobacco, sweet, dry, honey, herbs, light medicinal.

First of all, thanks to Sven from the Spiritmuseum in Switzerland. Thanks for sending me a bottle and to Jakob for the delivery. Tried it together with the Franconian Tasting Gang. I'm still a bit torn about how to classify this one. Will taste it again in peace.

Nose : Overripe Grapes, Dried Fruits, Plum, Date, Apricot, Guava, Sherry/Sulfur/Sweet Wine and Mint Tea. Taste : Sherry/Sweet Wine, Kumquat, Guava 😋, Plum, Apricot, Date, Licorice and Mint Tea. The aftertaste Sherry/Mint Tea/Guava stays a long in the mouth 😋

This could have been a good bottling based on the basic data, but the ex-Rivesaltes finish really dominates here. Trinidad brings grape, dark berries, cocoa, and a bit of mint, but most likely from the finish comes such an intense, overpowering caramel butterscotch note that overall it just becomes unbalanced and too sweet and artificial in my opinion. Also, the alcohol is very present and anything but well integrated...

The nose is relatively fruity. Relatively little funk... However, promisingly sweet... plum, overripe grape. On the palate then relatively well-formed. Not too hard a punch but still with character. Very tasty.

The use of a Rivesaltes cask in rum aging is unusual - and it actually brings new flavor nuances. The TDL sweetness with caramel, tropical fruits and mint gets an aromatic enrichment with apricot, mirabelle, peach and dried yellow fruits as well as subtle citrus zest. Hats off to Rum Club Switzerland - a fitting selection.

Three TDLs with barrel aging between 14y-22y tasted side by side. Alongside this rum, the RX15401 and RX22457. All three releases have a beautiful dark amber color, with this CDI standing in the middle regarding color depth. The nose impression is immediately captivating and delicious. Caramel, spice, barrel underlined with a fine sweetness. Honestly, more Foursquare than TDL. Only when you look for it do you find a slight mint, which is almost overshadowed by ripe plum. Here you can already notice the Rivesaltes barrel finish, which continues directly on the palate. The sweet wine component makes the release round and smooth. Criticism is that the TDL genetics are properly complemented (overshadowed), but for that, this rum just drinks away easily. The long finish ends primarily on spicy aromas accompanied by a distinct but fine Rivesaltes sweetness. Second place for me in the ranking of the three tasted rums.

3rd bottling of Rum Club Switzerland in collaboration with Charles Hofer. A very successful TDL. In the nose you can smell the Rivesaltes barrel, the taste duels with the typical Trinidad flavor, very exciting and complex. On the palate first the TDL, then the cask, before the fruitiness comes through. Great value for money.

Nose: Intense and expressive. Dried fruits, brown sugar and guava form the aromatic base. Behind them are fine woody notes and a pleasant freshness with a light hint of mint. Palate: Complex and well balanced. It starts with a touch of pepper, followed by well-integrated oak notes and a pleasant sweetness that gives the rum structure. Cocoa and dark berries add extra depth and complexity. Finish: Long and lingering. The subtle sweetness carries through to the end and turns into spicy notes of liquorice and liquorice root, which stay present for a long time. Conclusion: A multi-layered Trinidad rum with a nice balance of fruit, wood, cocoa and spicy notes. The gentle mint character on the nose, together with liquorice and liquorice root in the long finish, gives it a distinctive profile.
