Wu Dram Clan Clarendon Jamaican Rum 2007
Give it half an hour in the glass and the glue-solvent haze lifts to a ripe tropical basket — mango, passionfruit, peach, mirabelle. This is a calmer, more settled Clarendon: 19 years (14 of them tropical) put real oak and tannin behind moderate ester. Menthol threads through, and the finish runs dry and peppery. At 65.9% the heat pokes through late, but the fruit carries it.

How does Wu Dram Clan Clarendon Jamaican Rum 2007 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Mature Clarendon, ripe tropical fruit over oak A well-liked, grown-up Clarendon — fruity, woody, moderate funk. Regulars rate it highly; several note it doesn't quite match the older 1995 vintages, and the alcohol nips in the finish.

Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
Can't quite match the almost universally phenomenal 1995 Clarendons, but it definitely makes a statement. A powerful, "light" rum with alcohol that's not perfectly integrated (a slight sharpness especially stands out in the finish), which strangely reminds me of the 2007 Beenleigh from the Bottle Shop that I really like (RX24349; kumquat, bergamot) – but that could also be a hallucination due to the extreme heat right now... Conclusion: Convincing bottling, recommended.

Let it breathe for a while first, then behind the glue solvent haze comes a nice tropical fruit basket, less citrus fruits, more mango, passion fruit. All already mushy overripe (in a positive way)… On the palate also very fruity, plus old cask. Tannins in the finish. The 65% ABV is actually quite well integrated.
Review by Skyfly
Of course, it can't compete with the 95s, but it offers a similar flavor profile and is a good alternative compared to the current prices. Besides tropical fruits, wood, and spices, you can also taste a pleasant menthol. The alcohol is a bit sharp, so I have to deduct a few points.
Review by zabo
First of all, a big thanks to AntiSEBtisch who set aside a few bottles for a split in advance. As for the bottling itself, unfortunately it can't keep up with the 95er, but I was aware of that. Still, a very good Clarendon.

I really like the very prominent passion fruit note in the taste. The alcohol tingles a bit but is still absolutely manageable. With water, it becomes spicier and a bit bitter.
Review by Jussi Piirainen
This rum took some time in the glass to open up, i think is was about 30-45 minutes. On the nose:Esters, glue and medicinal notes with green apples and litchi notes. As the rum opens up you get even more menthol notes and then you start to get more woody and earthy notes. Taste: Intense. Woody notes. Spicy notes like peppery notes. Light citrus notes. Menthol notes in the background. Then i get earthy notes like tobacco notes. Finish: Spicy notes, menthol notes and touch of bitterness at first. Then you get woody notes, peppery notes and light earthy notes. Finishes quite dry. Maybe i did let this rum sit in the for too long, because i didn't get much of tropical fruits on the palate, but still quite good and intense Jamaican rum.

Too bad, I finished the Swell sample too quickly; a direct comparison would surely have been interesting. So, from fresh memory: The origin is clearly noticeable here as well. As often noted, it’s the passion fruit note that stands out. I also perceive a nice bitterness that offers a bit more contrast than in the Swell. The ABV is clearly noticeable here too but not overpowering. Hard to choose between the two. The banana at the end is really awesome, maybe the alcohol stands out a bit more here. Close call, both are worth recommending. The WDC is a tad denser. Tropical ripeness says hello 🇯🇲
Review by Johannes
Very complex, menthol, tropical notes, wood, slight bitterness.
Review by Andi
Beautifully complex, a bit funky but also very fruity. (Max says prickly pear) It's quite powerful, but not surprising given the alcohol content. Great drop.

I tasted the two new 2007 Clarendons from Bottleshop and WDC against each other and I am skeptical. The Bottleshop was super alcoholic and barely drinkable for me. For almost €70 more and after all the loud hype, I have high expectations. Like the Bottleshop, the WDC has a typical Clarendon lovage-mint-wood note. But with the WDC, this is more in the background and on a much lighter and softer base profile. This gives delicate aromas like vanilla but also esters and tropical fruits more space. Although the space is there, nothing forces itself and it remains somewhat closed. Despite the similarity to the Bottleshop, this one is much more balanced. On the palate, both rums are quite different. The Bottleshop is sharp and incredibly mentholated. Here, the menthol remains present but better integrated. The balance is much better than with the Bottleshop, yet weak alcohol integration and a noticeable acidity somewhat reduce the enjoyment. The tropical fruits still get a lot of room and bring a wide range (mango, passion fruit, pineapple) and a nice forest or chestnut honey sweetness. Sweet Solero ice cream in the finish with the menthol note actually reminds me of the better 2002 TDLs. The finish stays endless in the mouth. I had high expectations, after the Bottleshop only little hope left, but the WDC was able to meet the expectation, even though I would have wished for more depth on the palate for a higher rating. Wood and spices are almost completely missing and with that, what makes the 95 so extraordinary.

This is another bomb ☠️💣2007 Clarendon. For me the Cave Guildive RX10190 is most extreme, because I love the "blue stilton" cheese taste 😋
Review by Schnubbii
Really nice Clarendon! The profile is similar to the 1995 and 1997 vintages, but less complex, with a slight saltiness and wilder. Truly a beautiful piece and a successful cask selection from WDC.
Review by Sebastian JAEGER
The rum was distilled in May 2007 as a classic pot still rum at the Clarendon Distillery in Jamaica. The barrel was allowed to mature for a full 19 years, including an impressive 14 years under tropical climate right in Jamaica. This long aging at the place of origin is what gives it enormous concentration, intense fruit aromas, and remarkable depth. In the glass, the rum shows itself as complex and expressive: ripe mango, passion fruit, melon, and gooseberries meet elegant esters, fine spices, and the typical Jamaican power. Despite its intense cask strength, the rum remains surprisingly balanced and lively.
Review by Arya_NBV
Alcohol well integrated. Sweetish alcoholic but not sharp nose. Citrus fruit slightly mentholated, light sweetness. Long, slightly spicy finish. Not the heaviness and body you would expect after 14 years of tropical aging. Solid and tasty impression, but not a €170 revelation.
Review by GuybrushThreepwood
Nice yellow-fruity Jamaican. Esters are there but not too overpowering. Peach, mirabelle, mint/menthol. The 19 years show, but the wood isn’t dominant. A nice, somewhat more mature Jamaican with a moderate ester level. I like it a lot.
Review by ArminK
At first, a slightly sharp nose. Also a bit sharp on the palate. Alcohol upfront, but then the fruits come through. A bit too much mint for me, but it doesn't dominate for too long. Nice mouthfeel and pleasant finish.
Review by Buddudharma
Very nice, relaxed Jamaican with a good balance between wood, funk, and spices.
