Spirit of the day Caroni Trinidad Only, Birthday #1 1997
Sipped neat, this is a "dirty" Caroni that still gives you fruit — tar, rubber and old-garage smoke up front, then very dark berries and overripe tropical fruit underneath. At 60.3% the heat is there but the alcohol sits well integrated, and a salty licorice-and-burnt-sugar streak runs long through the finish. Several tasters call it one of the best 1997 Caronis they've had.

For me, one of the best 1997 Caronis I've had in the glass. Delicious, balanced ratio between fruit and dirty aromas. The color is strangely green and reminds me of the Anniversary Cuvée from Swell.

👃 Beaucoup de marqueurs empyreumatiques (bois brûlé, effluves carbonées, vieux garage, caoutchouc, fumée de bois...), des fruits noirs et baies très concentrées, un peu de fruits exotiques trop cuits, caramel brûlé, réglisse, salinité, touche de bacon. 😋 Ah, c'est bien sale comme j'aime que soit un Caroni. On retrouve toutes les arômes du nez en bouche, avec beaucoup de pétrole, de bois brûlé, de réglisse et de baies noires. Café très serré aussi. Gros point fort, l'intégration de l'alcool est très bonne, et j'apprécie beaucoup ces notes salées (réglisse salée, bacon). ⛳ Très longue, chaude et agréable, devient un peu asséchante sans être jamais désagréable, des fruits tropicaux très cuits, je retrouve le caramel brûlé. Encore beaucoup de salinité, l'un des marqueurs dominant durant la dégustation. 🏆 Whaou! Ça fait plaisir d'avoir un Caroni de ce niveau aujourd'hui. Excellent représentant du millésime 1997, au-dessus de la plupart des embouteillages Bristol pour moi. Assurément une des très belles sorties de 2026.

Wow, absolutely positively surprised. That such a great Caroni still comes onto the market nowadays, I didn't think it was possible. Anything but the standard low profile Caronis that still come out today. Perfect mix of dirty and fruity notes. SotD delivered again, I immediately ordered more. Will taste it again later in peace.
