Sip it neat and give it air — this TDL wants a few minutes in the glass to open. Ripe yellow fruit and peach lead, then menthol-cool eucalyptus, black tea and cedar, with a thread of rubber and "gear grease" dirt underneath. At 62.7% it's a bold pour but reads balanced, not hot. One taster contrasts it with the more Caroni-like first batch; this one is fresher and fruitier.

Another very beautiful bottling from TDL 2008. This vintage is starting to establish itself among the years to remember! Everything that characterizes the tasting notes related to it is present: peach, black berries, freshness, woodiness. A hint of rubber, eucalyptus, and blackberry.

👃 Menthol freshness (reminds me of Vicks VapoRub and all its ingredients; camphor, turpentine, eucalyptus, thyme), orchard fruits (obviously peach), tropical fruits (I get a lot of very ripe mango, also a slight lychee), a bit of dehydrated citrus, fruit juice caramel, some red and black berries. The dirty aspect is also well present; wood and burnt rubber, gasoline, saddle leather, really captures that old-school "garage" vibe. A complex nose that evolves throughout the tasting. 😋 Wow! What freshness! Medicinal peppermint, menthol, eucalyptus, all combined with iced peaches, Ice Tea, and variations of green tea. Then you get the body of the nose, with flavors of molasses and burnt caramel, yellow fruits and berries (I no longer get the mango note) and a bit of dirtiness (less than on the nose) on rubber, some oils and gasoline. ⛳ Warm, very very long, fresh, a veil of frosted white mint settles on the throat and lingers for a long time. It hovers between eucalyptus and thyme extracts. The wood is a bit more present, dry, intense. The fruits are more in the background with some soft peach notes and the characteristic berries. 🫗 Beyond the herbal freshness, the almost empty glass gives off notes of toasted coconut, caramel, and dark chocolate, you could almost be in Barbados for a moment. 🏆 Another absolute banger from Jimmy Rivière. All this offered at an excellent great value price of €89. At the time of writing this note, there are still a few bottles left on his site, go for it! ⚔️ Compared to the first TDL 2008 from the same bottler released 2 years earlier, this second batch is a bit woodier and slightly less dirty. But that’s just a detail. 📝 Over time, with aeration and half the bottle gone, I find it just as good as the first batch. What it loses in intensity (almost 2 degrees less), it gains in complexity and drinkability.

#7101 29.07.2026 Relaxing with a few samples to recover from a total of 30 km of walking today. Listening to some nice Armin van Buuren on Spotify. Very good rum especially when looking at the price tag. Medium intense profile with fruits, chocolage, spice, mint, natural sweetness, light roasted wood and light medicinal and herbal notes.

2008 is clearly a benchmark for TDL. Once again, it doesn't miss on this SOTD. The nose combines a nice freshness with generous notes of ripe yellow fruits. The palate is complex, mint / eucalyptus / blackberries / slight tar. Everything to become a reference vintage.

On the nose, lots of freshness. It is very different from the 1st batch which was closer to a Caroni. Here there is peach, black tea, cedar wood, a bit of rubber. But really a TDL. Quite light and needs a good amount of airing. On the palate, you find that menthol freshness, dried spices. Quite fruity with yellow fruits. The mouth finish is still on rubber and caramel. It’s well balanced. The finish is smooth and pleasant, with wood and spices.

Once again an excellent bottling from Romain and Spirit of the day. Nice interplay of fruit and dirty notes. Slight Caroni associations. Mint rather in the background, yellow fruits dominant, peach in the foreground.

Klassisches TDL Profil. Wunderbar ölig am Gaumen, ähnlich dem ersten TDL vom Bottleshop, aber nicht ganz so saftig und hellfruchtig. Dafür etwas gesetzter und gereifter. Mehr Fasseinfluss und etwas dreckiger, auch weniger Minze. Mit etwas Wasser meiner Meinung nach noch besser, er öffnet sich, bleibt dabei aber voll und verliert nicht seine Öligkeit. Auch wenn ich eher auf die hellfruchtigen Minzbomben stehe ist diese Abfüllung für mich wirklich ein ganz toller Vertreter der jüngeren TDL Abfüllungen und zu dem Preis ein No-Brainer.
