Everyone who tried this landed in roughly the same place: a traditional Savanna that drinks much sweeter than its "no added sugar" spec suggests. The cognac cask does the heavy lifting on the palate — caramel, oak, cherry, a bit of chocolate — over sugarcane and green herbal notes. At 59% the alcohol sits remarkably well, round and almost syrupy. Built soft for the Réunion home market, and it shows.

I really like this Unshared. On the palate, it develops a nice complexity of spices, vegetal notes, sweetness, nuts, fruit, and leather. The drinking strength is also pleasant and the alcohol is perfectly integrated..Top

Savanna Masterclass: a really pleasant Agricole where the Cognac cask really hits through on the palate, which you barely noticed on the nose. Alongside that, nice floral and woody aromas.

#7422 25.09.2026 - 28.09.2026 Attending the Whisky Live in Paris 2026 with a few good friends. We had a great time and it was nice to introduce them to this event which was a first for them. Quick notes while tasting. Sugarcane, spice, fruits, light roasted wood, chocolate, caramel, nuts, herbs.

Wow, what a crazy Savanna is this? Flavors I think I've never tasted or smelled before in a Savanna! On the nose, coconut, fig, light BBQ smoke, and dark chocolate, almost like a smoky Foursquare. On the palate, a pleasant caramelized sweetness like figs on a flame-baked flatbread, plus some honey, torched rosemary, dark chocolate chunks with sea salt, and a bit of cherry and cognac cask. Super wild and aromatically completely unexpected and unusual for a Savanna bottling. Great release! Definitely a release that's not for everyone and probably not for die-hard Savanna Herr fans! 😃

Savanna Masterclass Tasting September 2026 (unfortunately caught up alone): Pretty sweet, on the nose, on the palate, and in the finish. The nose is otherwise more spicy, on the palate with cognac notes, and only in the finish with some fruit. Good, but I liked the Eternal Summer a bit better.

Online Savanna Masterclass as part of WLP 2026 Very nice, rounded Agricole with a Cognac finish that works really well here. Still relatively subtle on the nose, the Cognac comes through nicely on the palate. Warm, rounded, and full without overpowering the basic character of the Savanna too much. It brings nice spice and woody influences and forms a beautiful overall package.

Savanna Masterclass tasting. Rest of the samples tasted calmly afterwards. Color is brownish amber. On the nose, Agricole notes. Fine spice and sugarcane sweetness. Mild overall impression. On the palate, very sweet first impression, although this rum is completely unsweetened. Herbal, plant-like notes behind. Because of this sweet impression, very accessible and probably quite to the local taste - hence unshared cask for Réunion. The medium-long finish on the spicy-sweet parts. Delicious.

Online RumX Savanna Tasting from 25.09.2026 For me the surprise of the evening, only beaten by the significantly more expensive Very Rare Cask. Traditional rum that was allowed to mature for 9 years in a Cognac cask. Alcohol wonderfully integrated, strong, with a minimal sweetness. Fruit meets cask, showing aromas of caramel, oak, chocolate, cherry, licorice, and mango.

It's really very rich, and the cognac finish adds a real plus. Aromas of fruit, leather, chocolate, spices, a little hint of chili, a bit of caramel, and a slight honeyed touch, plus a nice oakiness... It's really very well done, I like it a lot ❤️❤️

Nice mix of fruit and roasted notes, approachable and the alcohol is nicely integrated. No flaws, but also a bit boring. Missing that certain "Savanna Extra" for a higher rating. So far, none of the Unshared Cask have really grabbed me...

Another nice rum from Savanna. On the nose intense, fruity, woody, fresh, sweet, a bit smoky. Coconut and sherry. On the palate intense but still lightly oily with 59%, fruity, fresh, woody, round. Long finish, with notes of coconut and sherry coming through.

This is a very nice rum that is only available for the Reunion market. It is supposed to be a bit sweeter oriented for the target audience, but do still expect the regular Savanna quality. The rum is a bit hot but has no major flaws. Despite that, it did not fully catch me. But between the heavy hitters of the evening, it is difficult to stand out as a lesser god.
