The Whisky Jury T.D.L The Many Faces of Rum TDL 2003 22yo
Mint — a lot of it. This 22-year Trinidad TDL is all menthol and cool mint, with yellow orchard fruit (mirabelle, litchi), a bit of tea, pepper and clear oak tannins from the long aging. At nearly 61% it's warm and dry, "charakterstark" but not perfectly balanced. One taster called it a letdown for lacking heavier notes; others loved the mint-forward power.
The community says- Loads of mint
- Dry, low sweetness
- But: Heavy notes missing

👃 Very marked by mint, peach, and juicy mangoes. I also find it very floral, with orchard tree flowers and monoï. Lots of spices too, ginger, pepper, sweet chili, and an impression of malty vanilla 😮 Some dried fruits make an appearance. Noticeable traces of new rubber and smoke with aeration. The mentholated herbal aspect tends towards dried tobacco leaves. 😋 Trinidadian esters express themselves in an explosion of mint, menthol, eucalyptus, iced peach, lychees, chili peppers, and tannins. The influence of wood is felt more on the palate with a very resinous/conifer needle side. Lots of spices again, vanilla, chili, a slightly grilled/toasted side, and finally quite a bit of fruit over time, dried fruits and orchard fruits. A very dry profile, with nice intensity and development in the glass. No berry notes for me. Special mention for the very good integration of the alcohol after the first sip. ⛳ Long, very long as often with these TDLs, the menthol notes play a big part. Reminds me of the vapors of Vicks VapoRub on the chest. Quite astringent, fresh, herbal, spicy finish. The cask becomes more and more present as you sip. "Natural" notes (earth around a conifer), green tea. 🏅 Very good representative of the countless TDL 2003s, with a slightly stronger presence of wood influence bringing pretty resinous notes. However, it remains a monster of mint and fruit. In the top of the vintage with TWJ's Pelican, the CDI for Bar 1802, and the unbeatable Spirit Gallery. Kudos again to The Whisky Jury for this selection. 88+

I really like it! A powerhouse with clear edges and angles 💪 far from being boring. On the palate, you can definitely notice the long barrel aging, the tannins come through strongly...

For me, a disappointment. A simple framework of mint and yellow fruit with some chili added. Almost no heavy notes, which for me make these profiles really interesting. Finally, despite the 60°, the aromatic intensity and length are average...

Really a lot of mint.

The barrel influence is becoming clearer with the TDL2003 bottlings. Far from the wild mint monsters of CDI. On the nose, it seems a bit closed off, tamed and settled. On the palate, nicely complex with a bold body. It convinces here, especially with the balanced distribution of flavors. The mint doesn’t dominate completely. The barrel gets to have its say. I really like it, but it doesn’t have the punch of the older younger bottlings anymore. What you prefer is definitely a matter of taste.

Nose: Light medicinal notes. Mango, mint, vanilla, green tea, chocolate, and a pleasant alcohol aroma. Taste: Fantastic. There's really a punch. The alcohol is perfectly integrated though. A tropical fruit basket with lots of ripe mangoes and a box of milk chocolate with peppermint filling. There's also a hint of green tea. Medium-long finish.

Nose: my goddess. Unbelievable aroma of minty, herbals, eucalyptus, mineral, incase, some bicycle tube, flowers, resin, rubber, wax. Very concentrated. Little bit of fruits. Fantastic ! Palate: Dry. Green apple, minty, grass, herbals, chamomile, menthol, eucalyptus, fennel, Salvia (Sage), roots. Some yellow fruits, spices. Aftertaste: absolutely dominate of herbals, mint, eucalyptus, chamomile, roots. Little bit of yellow fruits. English breakfast tea. Conclusion: fabulous rum, so lot of herbals, mint, roots. It so intense & unusual. Not for all, but highly recommend to try this TDL. It's gorgeous 😍

Nose: Very complex TDL with clear tea notes, mint, and a slight tea aroma. Also noticeable wood and evident aging, the alcohol is present but not perfectly integrated. Palate: Menthol/mint and spice are very prominent, the wood is well integrated, and the sweetness remains low. Overall dry, full of character, with a slight tar hint. Finish: Medium to long, warm and powerful, with lingering spice and wood. Not perfectly balanced but very coherent and complex. The mint lingers for a long time. Comparison: For me, the Planteray TDL 2003 is a bit rounder and more accessible, and also much more attractive price-wise.
