Foursquare ECS XXXI Epilogue 2026
Caramelized sugar and butter off the nose — one member says it smells like walking into a bakery — with tobacco underneath and everything sitting in balance. The palate runs nutty and round: milk chocolate, warm citrus, oak, a touch oily. At 57% the alcohol reads well integrated, not hot. As the last of the ECS series and its oldest at 19 years, it's a composed, bourbon-cask Foursquare that fans of the Pleni will recognize instantly.

Wow, the last of the ECS. The oldest Foursquare in the series at 19 years. Bourbon-only. The nose is perfect, very round and balanced: vanilla, caramel, fruit, roasted notes, wood, milk chocolate. Tastes delicious, smooth and somewhat... weak?! The finish could be longer, but it's also tasty here with vanilla, caramel, chocolate.

This is basically the last ECS Foursquare. Well then. A solid representative of its origin, no big surprise really. The value for money is pretty good, it brings a lot of body and quality, I won’t go into the typical FS notes. Good stuff, the price is fair and not inflated – but it’s labeled ECS and not Velier – otherwise a 2 would be the leading digit on the price tag.

So this is the last of the ECS bottlings. On the nose pretty soft and quite familiar. On the palate also the familiar profile, but very mature. For my taste a bit nuttier than younger bottlings. Despite the age, fewer tannins than the Covenant, which I like. Compared to other pure bourbon barrel maturations like the Nobiliary, a bit more refined and settled. All in all, a worthy, high-quality conclusion to the ECS series, which I like better than some bottlings with a fancy finish in a special cask. In my opinion, pure bourbon barrel aging still suits Foursquare best, and this bottling very well too. For me, definitely one of the better recent Foursquare bottlings.

I bought a case of these the other day. It's raining and there's nothing to do. I decided to cook some skirt steak for my wife and pulled one of these out of the cellar. Nose: Burnt my nose a couple of times 😂😂😂 but I'm getting some caramelized sugar and butter, almost like the smells you get from a bakery/pastry shop. There's also some tobacco in the mix but the tones are super balanced. Palate: Round and balanced flavor profile. Mid palate offers some chocolate and nutty flavors, followed by some warm citrus and oak. The ABV is definitely well integrated here. Finish: Definitely long with warm notes of chocolate and oak.
