Varnish, glue and an odd briny olive lead the nose, backed by overripe fruit and a sour strawberry tang — a proper esterbomb from Le Galion. The palate can't quite keep the promise the nose makes: it thins out, a touch pungent, with young wood and olive on the finish. At 59.1% the alcohol sits surprisingly well integrated. Wild and green for three years.

Wow, great nose. Very funky. Wild mix of esters, overripe fruit, and citrus olives. Very complex for 3 years. Unfortunately, it can’t confirm this strong impression on the palate. But for the price, an exciting bottling—I would have loved to try it with a few more years in the cask.

Le Galion Grand Arome 2023/2026, 59.1% The Whisky Jury — The Ester Hunter Catch #8 С дистиллерией Le Galion меня когда-то познакомил Робин — в те времена, когда он еще работал в Crombe и организовывал спецботлинг через The Nectar (сейчас человек творит на бельгийской Dada Chapel, с чем его и поздравляем). Но ближе к делу. И к телу. Этот релиз способен озадачить даже тех, кто мнит себя закаленным высокоэфирным маньяком, привыкшим запивать Hampden утренний кофе. Привычные тропические фрукты и благородный малярный лак здесь взяли отгул. Вместо них из бокала бескомпромиссно веет процедурным кабинетом: плотная анестезия, стерильные бинты и суровая аптечная микстура. Дерзкая юность спиртов, конечно, бодрит, но избалованный эстет внутри меня требует чего-то большего, чем просто качественный наркоз на 59.1% алкоголя. Наш пациент пока слишком дик для изысканного удовольствия. Мой вердикт неприклонен: этому рому жизненно необходимо провести в бочке еще хотя бы лет семь, чтобы укротить нрав и набраться ума-разума. Занимаем очередь на дегустацию выдержанной версии и запасаемся терпением.
