#7368 25.09.2026 - 28.09.2026 Attending the Whisky Live in Paris 2026 with a few good friends. We had a great time and it was nice to introduce them to this event which was a first for them. Quick notes while tasting. Fresh, sugarcane, fruits, tobacc, grass, leather, diesel, tar, woody, chocolate, olive, roasted, medicinal, tar, mint, tannins, smoke, light salt and mineral.

Nose: Dense, dark, and heavily oak-influenced with rich confectionery complexity. Layers of burnt sugar, brown sugar, maple, fudge, toffee, and butterscotch build a syrupy base under airy meringue. Rich accents of fruitcake, candied fruits, and tropical fruit emerge alongside sweet cherry wood, vanilla, warm baking spices, leather, and a musty depth. ​Palate: Heavily wood-aged and distinctly oxidized. Unfolds with concentrated dried fruits—dates, figs, and raisins—steeped in red wine, sherry, and port. Cherry wood, woody tannins, and leather are spiked with ginger, nutmeg, baking spices, and a peppery bite. The finish takes an eccentric turn with a dirty, vinegary twang accompanied by subtle synthetic and metallic edges.

Tasted at Whisky Live Paris side by side with the Vieux Vaval. Both ten years old, ex Caroni casks. Of the two, it feels like the Casimir had lost more of the original character to the cask. Vegetal, phenolic with a bit of funky fruit but a lot of barrel character and oily, woody notes. On second tasting, the lactic, funky casimir notes come through more, but this is very different to Clairin as we know it. Unaged, Casimir is my favourite of the Velier Clairins, but this was less successful than the Vaval for me.
