Savanna The Very Rare Casks 4th Release C20M 1999
More than one taster reached for cognac before rum on the nose — that's the surprise here. Twenty years in oak gave it dried currants, dark chocolate and roasted wood, wrapped around fresh fruit and a faint menthol lift. The palate runs sweet then turns to elegant tannins and a pleasant bitterness. At 55%, the alcohol sits well integrated. A slow, contemplative pour.

#7399 25.09.2026 - 28.09.2026 Attending the Whisky Live in Paris 2026 with a few good friends. We had a great time and it was nice to introduce them to this event which was a first for them. Quick notes while tasting. Well balanced, fruity, caramel, leather, spice, leather, mint, chocolate, roasted wood, tannins.

Savanna Masterclass: WOW - an incredible rum that has matured wonderfully in the cask. On the nose, you first think of a Cognac. Agricoles that taste like berries, roasted wood, and chocolate are rare. Looks like I need to get a bottle!

I've definitely never had a Savanna like this in the glass before. It stands out aromatically a lot from the previous rare cask releases. It really reminds me a lot of a very old Spanish spicy brandy. Dark leather couch, a few logs slowly burning and crackling in the fireplace, dark chocolate, raisins, and a bit of sea salt – with a slight medicinal hint of phenol and iodine as well as adhesive bandages – plus Spanish Creme Catalan with a good espresso corretto (with brandy). A very exciting release that showed me a new range of aromas from Savanna! Extremely elegant and rounded, and taken from the cask at absolutely the perfect time. Truly a fine drop. Still, it doesn't quite reach the best in the series for me (the HES 2007) – but that's a completely different profile, so the comparison is a bit off.

Savanna at its best... an excellent bottling... reminds me a lot of the RumX bottling... not so heavy, but intense... more on the elegant side... which really appeals to me... price-wise, though, it’s also in the upper league.

Savanna Masterclass Tasting September 2026 (unfortunately caught up alone): Today I expected the most from a Very Rare Cask. On the nose, this promise is also fulfilled. Nicely dark, fruity but with dark berries. On the palate, I feel something is missing. It is still a very good rum. From memory, though, it doesn't quite reach the previous Very Rare Casks. Addendum: after another hour in the glass, I like it better again... Woody, sweet, dark berries.

Savanna Masterclass 2026 Very noble nose, I find heavy sweetness and beeswax. Amazing! On the palate, a fireworks display of aromas. Heavy sweetness with minty freshness, slowly the tannins come through bringing a very elegant bitterness. I also find a bit of Tictac Wintergreen. The alcohol is excellently integrated. In the finish, then prominently this pleasant, very balanced bitterness, somewhat astringent. Awesome stuff.

Tasting at the RumX Savanna Masterclass on 25.09.2026 First impression: this one needs time in the glass! Second impression: the real first impression. This is complex and a must-have for all rum nerds

Fantastic nose, sweet raisins. Palate is pleasant, easy, round. Bit of wood and fruits, well balanced. Loved the 3rd Release of the Very Rare Cask, this one I would rate a bit lower. Still very quality and surprisingly fresh & powerful for the 19 years of age.

Savanna Masterclass tasting. Sample rest tasted calmly afterwards. Awesome color, this brown-gold with an orange tinge. On the nose, a super mature aroma palette. Dried fruits combined with fresh fruit notes. Tasty and at the same time interesting. Round and engaging with well-integrated ABV. On the palate, spicy notes added to the cask notes. But still this balance with the fruity parts and a nice fine subtle sweetness. The finish follows the palate aromas. If it were a bit more intense and longer, this rum would have won the tasting for me. So, with the same score, it’s in second place behind the Ethernal Summer. But it’s all a matter of taste.

Clear winner of the evening, but also plays in a different league price-wise like the entire line, simply fantastic on the nose. The traditional molasses rum was allowed to mature in the barrel for 20 years and then went into the steel tank. The wood is wonderfully integrated, feels harmonious, with a hint of port wine. Complex aroma palette like almond, orange peel, mango, nectarine, and licorice.

Savanna Masterclass 2026 Sauternes nose. Dark berries. Great tannins. Slight menthol kick. Some tobacco, dark chocolate. Really good.

Next beautiful rum from Savanna, this time a bit more woody but still fruity, elegant, dark chocolate, oak wood, phenol. Nicely rounded and intense. On the palate the same beautiful intense rounded rum. The 20 years have enhanced it. The finish is so intensely fruity and woody.

Savanna x RumX masterclass Nose : fudge, caramel, licorice Taste : complex, wood astringent, licorice, dark sugar, elegant, dark chocolate Finale : long, dry, wood, brown sugar, toasted This one was hands down the best of the bunch, really good

What a rum this is. Very dark Savanna that reminds of a Guyana rum with its dark profile. Lots of chocolate, mocha and coffee against a dark green background. It has that nice bitter that never goes overboard. Deep and complex flavours that will go well on a winter’s day.
