TRC Long Pond Jamaica Single Cask Rum VRW 2005
Not the ester monster the Long Pond name might promise — this one leans dark and woody. Twenty years in a tropical climate pushed deep oak, leather and roasted espresso notes to the front, with the glue-and-fruit funk sitting quieter underneath. Give it air: several tasters say it picks up a basket of tropical fruit and a burnt-sugar sweetness the longer it sits. Long, warm, minty finish. The 64% stays remarkably well integrated.

Intense on the nose. After some time in the glas I get a deep and rich basket of tropical fruits. Very nice! While some ester notes are present, the nose is more delicate than funky in my mind. Rich and complex on the palate. Plenty of fruits and some funk. Rich butterscotch and quite some wood. The latter is nicely balanced versus the estery notes. Yet this clearly shows its age showing complexity and depth.

At first, I held back because of the split and the personal connection with TheRumCask, but honestly, I can't deny that for the price this rum is really a knockout. The 20 years in the cask did it a lot of good, perfect timing for Jens to take it out of the cask. The alcohol is very well integrated.

A very nicely fruity and at the same time darker LP that comes with light esters. The longer it stays in the glass, the better it gets. For the price of 110€, it's a real bargain. A wonder that it's still available to buy.

Great bottling with power and complexity. Not an ester monster, but a great combination of tropical fruits, wood, and ester notes. Intense tropical aging, with a great long finish. Rather dark with leather and roasted notes.

Nose: At first, distinct esters and some alcohol; the rum needs a bit of time in the glass to become more approachable. Afterwards, the beautiful cask shows with caramel and a pleasantly mature, complex aroma. Palate: Nice sweetness on the tongue, followed by spice, oak, and light esters. The alcohol is well integrated and not disturbing. There are also subtle leather notes that give the rum depth. Finish: Long, warm, and rounded, with a nice mint tone in the aftertaste. Conclusion: A very well-balanced rum with great cask aroma, good sweetness, and harmoniously integrated alcohol. For me, it could just have a touch less wood – then it would be even better.

On the nose, there's a good amount of oak, more than with RX20000, but the alcohol is slightly better integrated. Tropical fruit like mango really comes through well. I actually like it a bit better in that area today. On the palate, also a lot of oak, so you definitely need to like wood. The fruit is less intense in comparison but still very good. The finish remains dominated by wood. The fruit struggles a bit, but when it comes through, then 😋 In conclusion, RX20000 remains the clear winner for me. But since that one is no longer available anyway, I liked this very good bottling as an alternative at a fair price.

The sample arrived today and went straight into the glass. I'm curious. The color is a very beautiful clear orange-brown. A treat for the eyes. A spicy, wood-forward first nose impression. The long time in the barrel is noticeable, but in a pleasant way. A sweetness of burnt sugar comes in, then also light fruity aromas. On the palate, intensely aromatic. Woody spice, noticeable but integrated ABV. Tart fruitiness, very slight solvent notes. Overall incredibly flavor-intense. Espresso notes come in along with a minty aroma that pulls into the long finish. A classy combination of deep woody spiciness and fruity elements – a powerhouse. It gained 2 points with time in the glass.
