Got a sample of this fantastic rum from the Carrere distillery in Guadeloupe as a gift from Rhum Attitude. It has spent its 15 years of aging in American bourbon oak casks before bottled in just 623 bottles. The nose is balanced, round almost velvety, woody, spicy and fruity with scents of vanilla, orange peel and chocolate. At the palate it’s goes on in the same way with a certain complexity and flavors of caramel, lemon, vanilla, chocolate and tobacco. The rather long finish is woody and velvety with flavors of fruit and tobacco. Overall one of the best Montebello’s, if not the best, I’ve ever tasted.

This rum is priced at 500+ Euro, but is it worth the money? In my opinion, most definitely. The nose comes at you once you pour it, candied fruits, vanilla and a bit of earthiness. The barrel has also left notes of bourbon and overall a very well balanced nose. The palate is complex and like velvet, yum. Fruits, caramel and chocolate with wood and vanilla trailing. In the end a hint of mocha and tobacco. The finish is long and velvety with wood, fruits, vanilla and a hint of tobacco. A very good rum worth the price tag.

Very spicy on the nose, with a hint of wood. After aeration, it's quite greedy, with a hint of brown sugar. On the palate, there's a hint of alcohol, with lots of spice and a background of damp wood. The finish is quite long.

Beautiful Montebello, promising on the nose, pleasantly round on the palate, wood, caramel, nougat, spices, fresh fruit sweetness. Concise bitterness on the finish, but not too intense. Attractive release.
