Chamarel XO
One taster called it "a beutiful smooth and simple taste," and that captures the appeal: soft vanilla, caramel and a clear woody backbone from this 8-year Mauritian cane-juice rum. It leans sweet and dessert-friendly, with dried fruit and a little spice. Several reviewers wish it had more punch, though — the 43% can taste hotter than expected in the finish.

How does Chamarel XO taste?
Aggregated from 80 community reviews.
Soft, sweet vanilla-and-wood cane sipper Most find it easy, soft and pleasantly sweet, with vanilla and wood up front. The recurring gripe: it's a touch thin, and a few wanted more power and depth.

The best rhum that I have tasted so far on Mauritius. Unfortunately, hardly to be found here, since largely displaced by the (m. E. not quite as good) Special Edition 2022 6y with 45%. Didn't think a sugarcane juice chamarel would outshine a molasses New Grove on my palate, but it was the case. Very pleasant, surprisingly deep rhum. With a few percent more it could have been the rage, but even so it would leave standard rum drinkers beady eyed.

Not a bad rum but I would have loved a higher ABV.

Very gourmand on the nose, with notes of vanilla, cane and wood. Sweet and engaging. On the first palate, the promises of the nose remain, with some dried fruit. Then a discreet bitterness intrudes on the finish. The sensation is balanced by a lively, spicy edge. Caramel. Slightly roasted notes. Wood and vanilla. A rather pleasant agricultural experience. Edit: still lacks punch. The significant reduction leaves a watery sensation. On an early line-up, it's still very pleasant.

Leckeres Teil.

First Chamarel, and I am surprised by the Influence of the wood, which is quite obvious. I am. Missing other typical Agricole notes, but assume the have mellowed during the aging process. It is OK, but will not become a favorite, one must be in the right mood for it. Also, the Alcohol tastes quite strong, especially in the aftertaste, for a 40% spirit, compared to others in cask strength I have experienced.

A beutiful smooth and simple taste

Weich, Vanille, wenig Abgang, eher süß, ingesamt mild, gut zu trinken.

Descent, well made but not impressed. Lack of power but it was part of session with monsters at 60+ degrees, it should have come earlier.
