Opinions land in the middle on this one. The nose wins people over — juicy pear, honey, a floral lift and a buttery, raw cookie-dough note several tasters flagged. The palate turns drier and more herbal: wood, mint, licorice, a little citrus and spice. A few found the palate flatter and less intense than the nose promised, and at 57% it needs a splash of water to open up.

01.02.2020 Relaxing at home with some samples I got from a friend. Notes. Light in colour. Nose: Fresh, light wood, fruity, floral, light mint. Palate: Wood, floral, mint, medium dry, light licorice, spice, light nutts, citrus. Finish: Medium long, wood, mint, licorice, dried fruit.

Small Milano Rum Festival tasting: not as good as the predecessor, both in terms of complexity, intensity, and alcohol integration. The pear aromas remind me a bit of a fruit brandy, combined with various spices.

23rd day in the Christmas calendar. Blind!Not at all clearly classifiable. Not at all typical Versailles...Nose: very fruity, almost floral. Foremost I have juicy, sweet pear. Some honey and delicately ripe tangerine. There's still something buttery, like raw cookie dough with some vanilla. Dry woody at the back, a touch peppery and quite a bit of fresh mint.Palate: quite different. Dry, spicy and a bit fruity, maybe grape. Woody with light licorice and a slight citrus note. But overall quite flat and not very intense. Too bad, the nose was clearly better.

More fruity, light technique, a bit of Maliboo solvent. Sharper spicy, pleasant technical aftertaste. Medium long but gently technical.

A wet, nice, light rum, fruity, slightly woody, honey, pear and mirabelle plum. A bit of vanilla and nutmeg. Surprisingly sharp-edged on the palate, the alcohol isn’t very well integrated. Peppery, pear with mirabelle like a good fruit brandy. Sharp with an oily and creamy texture. A bit salty, tastes like polish and young wood. Warm and sharp finish but not very long. Nice fruity finish.

I have to honestly say that what comes through immediately is smoke. Then comes something herbal. At first, I wasn't sure if this was really rum or actually whisky. Interesting but unfortunately not really my taste.

Unfortunately, this is not quite my favorite rum style... I enjoyed tasting it, but I feel the typical Guayana flavor like in El Dorado...

Unfortunately, compared to the other Milano Rum Fest bottlings, this one is not very exciting. It seems to me that the character of the distillate gets lost behind the bourbon cask. A shame.
