If you already chase clairin and raw cane-juice grogue, this Cape Verde pot-still is your lane. Unaged and grassy, it swings between fresh sugarcane and pear on the nose and a heavy nail-polish, solvent streak that not everyone gets past. The palate turns vegetal, mineral, peppery, a little salty. One taster caught real fermented funk; another found it thin and watery. Divisive by nature.

Tasted blind. The nose reminds me of an agricole with a sweet scent of cane, it is round, pleasantly fruity with ripe pear and a hint of cucumber, I even imagine a slightly longer fermentation. The palate is more focused on elements, vegetal, mineral, and iodine. I get the sensation of maritime proximity.

Barbosa, M&G, Vulcao in comparison... Nose: vegetal, fermented and slightly vinegar, a little more lemon than the other two. Again sauerkraut and cucumber. Nose closer to the M&G, very light caramel note and slightly resinous. Palate: similar to the M&G, superficially sour, slightly salty and resinous. Artificially planty and herbal. A somewhat unpleasant lemon balm and toilet stone mixture. Unfortunately, I don't really like it either. Of the three, the Barbosa is the most pleasing.

Hard to find aromas in this rum because the solvents and nail polish smell are so strong. The mouth opens more on sugarcane and spices but the solvent taste persists, same for the finish.

Discreet nose of sugarcane and horrible palate, extremely diluted, an impression of being cut with water 1/3 rum 2/3 water. Will have to taste another bottle, too much difference between reviews!
