Un rhum très gourmand qui tire profit de sa finition en fût de sauterne pour gagner en rondeur, notamment avec un profil sucré sur les fruits confits et tropicaux, l’abricot et la banane, le vin, la canne à sucre et le miel. Des notes épicées et presque beurrées viennent agrémenter ce nez très plaisant. On retrouve un rhum très doux en bouche, mais assez équilibré entre les fruits, le tabac, le caramel et les épices. Assez complexe et très gourmand, il se laisse boire facilement avec ses 41%. La finale est sur une longueur moyenne et apporte une touche toastée au rhum. Un bel exemple d’une finition réussie chez HSE.

We had a go at several HSE today and I'm a bit tipsy from it.

Blind tasting: the nose immediately recognizes an Agricole: some grassiness, sweet white wine, leather, earth and barrel influence with nice spicy aspects. Drinking strength on the palate with ~43% and the powerful spice already noticeable on the nose. Unfortunately, I don't find the unusual white wine sweetness for Agricole rums from the nose on the palate again. Could indicate a finish or a misperception on my part ;-). The finish is medium-long and very spicy. A tasty Agricole, no more and no less. I guess a Martinique rum from Le Simon (Clément, HSE) with ~43% and 9-12 years (possibly with a sweet wine finish). 81 points

Quant au 2005, le nez est tout aussi pâtissier : miel, abricots, ... mais par contre il a vraiment plus de gourmandise et de corps ! On a du raisin, des fruits confits mais une plus belle longueur plus boisée et épicée. Pas de doute, je préfère ce 2005 qui a une plus belle et longue finale que le 2003 ! Merci Mika Clement pour ce sample du 2005 😉
