Rhum J.M Single Barrel (Selected by Kirsch) 2004

8.4/10
Rated by Oliver, Maxence & 49 more

What catches people off guard here is how much it does at 43.6% — wood, vanilla and toasted oak up front, then orchard fruit underneath: peach, plum, apricot and a clear note of cherry that several tasters single out. Floral and a little dusty, elegant rather than loud. A handful wish it were a few points stronger, but most find it round and easy without ever tasting thin.

  • Cherry and orchard fruit
  • Elegant, not thin
  • Well-integrated oak

How does Rhum J.M Single Barrel (Selected by Kirsch) 2004 taste?

Aggregated from 51 community reviews.

Elegant, fruity 14-year Martinique agricole Widely liked as an elegant, fruit-and-oak agricole that stays round, not thin. One blind taster of 30 J.M bottlings crowned it the winner; the main gripe is the gentle ABV.

Perfect for

Fans of aged, fruity agricole who want balance over power

Less suitable for

Anyone wanting cask-strength punch or a long finish

On the nose, the J.M shines with Neisson's elegance. Complemented / dominated by cherries and dusty dresser (great!).In the mouth liquid maraschino cherries.Very exceptional Agricole, probably perfect with cheese fondue.

Tested at the Franconian Tasting against the J.M. bottling from WuDram. Both very successful in my opinion. I'm probably swimming against the tide here, everyone saw the WuDram in front, but I liked the Kirsch bottling better.

Very tasty bottling with a broad spectrum of flavors in the best balance. Does not seem thin at any time, always offers new facets and thus becomes wonderfully quaffable. Agricole par excellence.

Incredibly cool Agricole! Not too thin, not too much wood despite such a long maturation period, very elegant and complex. I like it extremely well!

A smooth, excellent rum! A little too tame for me though
