Diplomático Mantuano
Caramel, vanilla and dried fruit lead here, with dates, raisins and a woody, slightly spicy backbone. What surprises most people is that it's noticeably less sweet than the Reserva Exclusiva — the pot-still share adds a bit of real rum character. Several tasters call it a light, easy everyday sipper that won't wow you but rarely disappoints. Body runs thin and the finish is short.

I think this would be a good rum for a starter into the rum world. It is a little more spicy than other rums from the same distillery. In the nose I found some figs and chocolate and I got notes of dried fruit, vanilla and spices, kind of an orange-y finish

Drinking it neat, without ice. Fruity nose and strong woody taste. Warming without burning. Looooong taste. Great rum

Unfortunately no longer my cup of tea. It's now too weak bom ABV and too sweet for me. Corrected downwards

7,7:The nose of this rum is very typical. It is a work around caramel, with a well-burnt and dark tendency, lot s of tropical fruit-banana....Coffee and molasses are mixed in to create a dense and concentrated liquid. Then we oscillate between melted wood and notes of wet cardboard, before the pepper comes in to give it a little kick and freshness. But that's without counting on the vanilla which adds to the sweetness and the sugary sensation. After airing the cane has a chance to stick its head out again. It now appears with its straw and even a little bitter lime zest, all very candied and melted though. The woodiness is dusty, it's a roasted nuts at the end. 7,8:The palate is quite balanced and again very typical. There is an impression of sweetness which is balanced by the dryness of the roasted nuts. Then this palate becomes decidedly round and flattering, with notes of honey, molasses, coffee and light tobacco, slightlysmoky. It remains quite intense and not so sweet. Vanilla appears in touches, linking the wood and the sweetness, again tropical fruit-banana as a leader. 7,4:The finish is soft and rather discreet, it vanishes quite quickly.

Primarily sweet on the nose. Vanilla, caramel and banana? Then rather flat in the mouth, sweet here too, vanilla and caramel, perhaps also some milk chocolate. The finish is short and flat with vanilla, a little sour and despite the 40% alcohol can be tasted.

Nothing special. Very light but fruity and sweet.

Of the diplomatic ones, the weakest. Sweet and quite simple, it drinks perfectly. I accompanied it with friends and grilled meat, typical of my country. That always raises the note. Salu! 🥃

I thought he would be really cute. But he is not at all. Very pleasant intense wood. Even reminds a little of guyana. No übertribene vanilla and caramel Like the 12 year old. Comes across very honest and authentic. Am positively surprised
Review by heckto🥃
A light fruity sweet rum. Quite pleasant vanilla and caramel on the nose. Some wood and spices are added on the palate. Not a bad choice in itself, especially as the price is great. Nevertheless, I prefer its big brother, the Reserva Exclusiva.

Nose: Not much flavor to pick, definitely fruits, spices and sweetnes. Taste: Here it is much more transparent than nose. You can taste the fruitiness and aparent sweetness rounded with just a tad little hint of wood. Very pleasant taste which is less sweet than the reserva exclusiva which is a bit too much sweetness for my taste. Finish is short to medium long and you can feel the pleasant fruity tones with just a little oak on your tongue for the remainder of the aftertaste. You cannot go wrong with this one if on budget. Highly recommended as a better option than its ,,older,, brother.

I am positively surprised! Why drink the standard Botucal when this is very similar and much less sweet? The nose is not very complex, but good. My first thing that pops into my head is cherry bubble gum with chocolate caramel. In the mouth, wood dominates with fruit and caramel. The overwhelming sweetness of the Reserva Exclusiva is absent here in the 8y. Could be a little rounder in the mouth and also more intense, but for the price totally fine. Is finally a young rum
Review by RumBarfly
An interesting venture, with a very subtle nose which hints at sweetness and honey, but part ways for a complex and more commanding flavour, that brings heat and spice, woody and charred flavours and finished with a long, tingling spicy burn. Not for everyone and probably not the ideal sipping rum but has its place on an enthusiasts bar shelf for more adventurous drinkers or mixologists.

Review by Surbiton Man
Very spirit forward on the mouth and finish. Needs a bit more balancing, probably works better in cocktails than straight.

Preis Leistung ist super. Leider etwas zu dünn für mich.
Review by Werner10
Not too sweet, fruity, a bit of caramel. Nothing special but not bad either.
Review by Fauco
Its a good price worthy rum, but nothing more than that in my opinion. Heavy nosing of raisin, taste is a bit flat but enjoyable.

Quite sweet. Very short finish.

A solid warm rum

Nose is fruity and sweet, some barrelwood and spices. Palate brings more dried fruits and less sweetness than the nose hinted at. A warm burn to the aftertaste with the barrel and spices coming through. Less sweet than the Reserva Exclusiva, also a nice sipper.

times not sweet, quite appealing for the price. Nice change!

A very delicate taste. Not much in the way of sweetness. Not my favorite sipper, but looking forward to trying in a cocktail to see if I can bring out some more intense flavors.

Perfume and vanilla. Golden copper tint. Almost a spiciness in finish. Sweet on ling aftertaste.

30 ml sample. This has fairly gloopy legs in the glass, and it's darker than anticipated. Nose: Cherry cough syrup sweetness Caramel chocolates Wood, spice and dry fruit At points floral confectionery Mouth: Syrupy here too with raisins The wood and spice builds up nicely All barrell and sugar, not much base Finish: Longer than anticipated with wood, dried fruit and spice. Impression: I wouldn't cry if this was bought for me as a gift with a fancy glass, and I'd consider a bottle if I saw it on the shelf for below £25. Is there glycerol in this one though?

The nose is woody. Sandal wood up front, some darker caramel. Prunes and some faint varnishy notes. The palate hits first with vanilla and caramel. Some fruity raisins in dark chocolate. It's not a rum with big flavours but not unpleasant. A lot less sweet then the Reserva Exclusiva but not dry. The finish has more length than expected. Molasses and coffee mainly. Surprisingly dry towards the end. It's not bad. Mild, inoffensive. Wouldn't be something I grabbed a lot off the shelf. Mid tier.

It’s too early to comment. Just opened the bottle and had one pour. It was decent. Maybe I was expecting more. The nose had raisins, slight oak and cinnamon. The floral notes started to develop. It was quite aromatic towards the end. The palate had a touch of sweetness, lots of dried fruits especially dates and raisins and cinnamon spice. It was starting to taste a bit like cola towards the end. I started to like it just when I was about to finish my dram. I will try again and update here.

Review by MoMcGurk
A light oaky flavor and a little afterburn. Preferred it straight over mixed. Price point of under $25 gave it a rating boost.
Review by David Heraty
Nose: Obviously sweet due to the small dosage, but it's also got some fruitiness to it and a nice barrel influence. Mouth: The flavour feels alright. Not that interesting, but there's something there. Sweet with a nice woody character. Very mild spice as well. Finish: Has a very short burn. Flavour survives for a short while, but not long enough to allow the taste to hang around. Final thoughts: While not the most exciting rum, it definitely is a nice little sipper. It's not too sweet when compared with the Reserva Exclusiva, and does hold a small amount of character. I somehow feel that the beginner crowd or those into sweeter rums might not find this as good as the Reserva Exclusiva and that's fair enough. I would still recommend giving it a go if you're at an early stage of your rum journey.

This is a decent sipper at a good price. Chocolate, caramel, and dried fruit on the nose. Smooth with notes of caramel, vanilla, and a pleasant bitterness. It lacks a full-bodied flavor, and the finish is very short. There’s better rums at this price, but this is still a solid choice.
