Nail polish and fermented funk hit first, backed by a garlic-and-truffle-oil note some tasters chase and others can't get past. Underneath sits raspberry, sugarcane, caramel and a dry, roasted finish. At 58% neat it's sharp and cutting — a few drops of water round it out. One member sums it up as "stinky but in a nice way," which about nails this wild South African cane-juice pot still.

02.08.2025 Retasting and I still like it and the price tag is really good. --------------- #5078 Saturday 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Light to medium dark. Nose Fresh, medium intense, faint wood, glue, faint acetone, apple, faint citrus, light sugarcane. Palate Warm, fresh, light wood, light orange, apple, light sour, faint tannins, faint tobacco. Finish Long and warm, light wood, light tannins, light rubber, light citrus, spice. Empty glass Light rubber, faint sour, apple, light glue, citrus, light minerals.

I had bought the bottle when it came out by reading a couple of reviews. Personally I can't drink this. The nose is just about right but the mouth is impossible. But I understand that one can like it. We tasted this with two friends. One thought like me and the other one won a bottle that day because he liked it a lot. He brought me back a sample a few days ago so that I could taste it again a long time later and unfortunately the verdict is the same: for me it's like in wine, the wood chips infused in the barrel to make it old is definitely NO!

I like Mhoba Rums, not easy to drink, but quite complex. Great mix of fruit esters, caramel sweetness, chocolate, herbal agricole notes and roasty coffee. Spicy pungency is also present, though when undiluted the alcohol can even be perceived as cutting. Overall, a solid rum for a good price. Mhoba rums are something special!

Rum and chocolate tasting by Rum Club Switzerland. A nose bordering on the aggressive, with a hint of wood varnish. Fortunately, fruit dominates on the palate. The finish, too, is fruit-forward. An aggressive rum on the nose, but the palate is sexy and the varnish is discreet.

The last rum at the airport in Istanbul is a Mhoba. Ester is recognizable in the nose, as well as nail polish, and it tastes quite fermented. On the palate we have esters again and lots of tropical fruit, as well as being sharp-edged and pungent.

I'm still a bit torn. I didn't really like or get convinced by it neat. Also mixed with cola, it didn't convince. But in Ti'Punch or Daiquiri it performed well. Probably remains a divisive rum.

Wow, a really complex experience; especially on the nose. Multi-layered, somewhat confusing, different.. You can easily guess that it's an Agricole. Slight prickling in the background. A bit sharp.

The Mhoba Strand 101 has for me a very unique garlic/truffle oil aroma on the nose, which I find a bit tiring and for me drowns out everything else. With time in the air and a bit of water, however, this becomes somewhat more bearable. On the palate then a very unique aroma, garlic and truffle oil step a bit into the background, accompanied by steppe grass and a bit of caramel. The finish is medium length. Not a bad entry into the Mhoba range, even if the nose is initially a bit of an acquired taste.

This is a rum of duality that works superbly well. A super interesting and inviting nose: Pungent, tropical esters, yet creamy and candied with a lovely toasty woody meaty backdrop. It smells tasty. On the palette, its fiesty and estery with a long, sweet and roasted finish. Super complex and delicious, now how to find a bottle in the UK?!

Wow! The nose starts with intense stewed forest fruits or raspberries or is it an extremely fermented, almost garlicky note?! One thing is sure: it polarizes. On the palate more harmonious: strong esters, ripe banana, lots of sugarcane as well as mineral and slightly olive hints - garlic recedes far back. The alcohol is well integrated, the finish long, dry and pleasant. Reminds me at times of a matured Clairin. An independent and impressive distillate, but probably not for everyone.

The first impression is strange, on the nose and in the mouth, but over time it softens with notes of caramel and even chocolate.
