24.10.2009 at O'Malleys Sportsbar in Shanghai. This bar is unfortunately no more. It was a great place where we often went to relax and socialise. Notes. Nice dark in colour. Nose: roasted wood, caramel, vanilla leather, earthy. Palate: oily, spicy/warm, dry, roasted wood, intense, balanced. Finish: very long, woody, dried fruit, dry, spicy, tobacco.

Excellent nose with one of those unique profiles that sticks right away and almost forces you to sniff again and engage more deeply with the rum. The top notes are floral followed immediately by more settled vegetal notes, slightly tart aromas of leather, earthy tones, and woody cask influences. The profile is flanked by a heavy sweetness both from pipe tobacco and apricot, plus fresh citrus notes in the background. On the palate, the blend remains similar, accessible thanks to the reduction, simultaneously aromatically balanced despite the now recognizable heavy earthy-spicy notes with tart spices, slight bitter wood notes, elegant florality, and smooth fruit notes of apricot, banana, and citrus fruits convince. This is simply very good, even if one suspects that with a bit more alcohol power even more aroma intensity and complexity would have been possible.

Reminds me of a Nine Leaves on the nose. I like it very much! But the final kick is missing.
