Sipped neat, this is a cask-strength Martinique agricole that drinks fuller than most of the style: orange and grapefruit peel, dark chocolate, dried plum and noble oak, with the grassy vegetal edge sitting quietly underneath. Several tasters flagged a cognac-like character from the small French oak. A touch of bitterness and heat at 58%, but most find it rounds out beautifully with air.

Depaz delivers again. An Agricole like from the textbook. Slightly bitter, woody, fruity and of course typical vegetal agricole notes. Doesn't reach the 2002 vintages, but definitely holds its own against them.

The nose is really nice. Mainly citrus scents then caramel and licorice, a hint of red fruits. Really nice. Unfortunately, on the palate it disappointed me due to the strong caloric and alcoholic sensation. At the entry, a note of caramel that quickly closes with a bitter scent of orange peel and grapefruit, agricole.

Incredibly beautiful agricole single cask. Extremely smooth, harmonious, nice light sweetness, mirabelle, bitter orange, red grapes, honey and dark bittersweet chocolate with sea salt, a bit of grapefruit & orange peel zest... Unbelievably delicious and elegant. Magnificent bottling! For me definitely a benchmark cask strength agricole!

The Depaz Single Casks at cask strength are always an experience in a positive sense. So is this one.. the spice, the cask influence, and fruit and finally the typical vegetal Agricole note are perfectly balanced! Classy

Moving up two points, after a retasting. One of the better agricoles I had so far (out of not that many). Nicely complex. Some sulphur, especially on the nose, but not an issue. Wonderful, i love the apple honey smell and loads of mirabelles, oranges, grapes in taste, hint of licorice and a sulphur note. on finish i have some floral honey sweetness with a bit of tartness. Finish not too long, but overall round and very enjoyable rum. Thanks Dr Django for the sample.

An old rum. This nose is reserved, but the palate has a dry and at the same time elegant power that comes with spices, fruits and wood. The vegetal freshness of an Agricole is also noticeable as well as the similarities with a Cognac.

And then an Agricole, but I'm struggling with this one right now. Surely a great rum, but not my thing at the moment. In my opinion, too much citrus on the nose and palate. Unfortunately too little wood and spices.

Looking at the price tag you get a lot for your money in my mind. A beautiful and well balanced rum with nice Agricole notes. Fruity and fresh with nice wood notes. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has some chocolate and light nutty notes.

I’m on a never ending quest to find some rums that pair well with cigars. The woody and fruity flavours go almost perfectly with the cigar. The citrus taste is very pleasant as are the chocolate notes in the finish. There is also a slight sweetness present which marries well with the taste of the cigar.

Martinique with a capital M. Superbly intense, with a big, greedy woodiness. The spices are very present. When I opened the bottle, I was bothered by a very pronounced nutmeg aspect. Oxidation has smoothed this out.

Wow - positively impressed. The combination of the Agricole with exactly this cask (I think Armagnac or Cognac) has produced a magnificent result. The Agricole brings less vegetal but more citrus fruit aromas. Alongside nice wood and chocolate. The cask provides Cognac/grape aromas. Alcohol perfectly integrated!

Extraordinary agricol rhum. Full of fruits. Apple and tropical. Bitter herbal and wood in a good way. Earthy. Chocolate. Too bad about the small barrel... it marks the taste too much and reduces the nose. (compared to the 2002, which I find superb) Almonds, candied lemon, Martinique terroir well present: savory, earthy, fresh but with a slight bitter/alcoholic touch.

A bit less fruit and a bit more spices (compared to the 2000). On the nose I notably find prune and nuts always with the very noble wood present. There are much more gourmand notes than on the first with stewed fruit and fresh eucalyptus notes. This medicinal side almost reminds me of a Guyana while keeping the agricultural frame. Tasting 2: I like it less than the first time. Notes of cocoa. It almost tastes like a cognac.
